This was our first stay here having visited the Lake District regularly over many years and sadly was by far the biggest disappointment. The photographs for marketing are done very well and do not show the true reality. We stayed at the langdale in a tiny room with no views. Anyone walking past could see straight in. It’s is described as a spa however the facilities available for the langdale are more like a local leisure pool with children jumping in and out. Sadly when we went to use the facility was closed for health and safety reasons. So a spa visit without a spa. They are clearly understaffed with constant waits to speak to anyone or even to pay. The location is beautiful but I think they use this to justify the room charges, it does not feel like luxury. Beware also that if you I tend to use the brimstone spa this costs 170 for a couple for three hours. The website does not make you well enough aware of this. We won’t be returning sadly. Disappointed.

understand Xmas break don’t come cheap. Booked this break 4 months in advance and it was meant to be a proper treat me and my girlfriend were really looking for. Quite disorganised staff from the beginning replying to my emails but I still wanted to give it a go. More than £500 per head for a really underwhelming Xmas break. Set menu £110 per head excluding drinks for a set menu which was really below average. Main course beef wellington was a disgrace, cold meat with soggy pastry and luke warm sides. Service beyond slow, we had our drinks (paid on top of the food) after our starters. Xmas Eve buffet (as promised) non existent, paid £26 for two pizza which were just bad. Spa on Boxing Day: really below average treatments for £135 per head (x 2) When given feedback, check out receptionist apologised and asked me if I would take a feedback call which never arrived. GM: are you really bothered? I don’t think so. Langdale guys: when you charge PREMIUM prices (which people like me would pay on Xmas day) you must to deliver. You guys miserably failed.

Gone downhill big time this year. One time you could access your tool before 3 pm if it was done , now they don’t activate the door card till 3 pm. Serious shortage of staff. Stoves restaurant has gone very poor. Breakfasts aren’t as good, chaos at breakfast time. No one clearing tables, plates everywhere. Not enough staff. 1 toaster that takes 3 goes. Evening meals in stoves , menu very poor and now kids portions. Service lacking. New Year’s Eve bar , ran out of some bottled , lager , no baileys , or baby Guinness. To top it all the singer booked for New Year’s Eve decided to pack up at 10 to 12. We all decided to do our own countdown 😂. Then someone decided to put radio 1 on 😂 Won’t be returning new year again and definitely won’t be eating in Stoves of an evening. We asked for the bill and a waiter who we hadn’t seen us all night asked would we be leaving a tip 😂😂😂 don’t think so.

Lovely waterside room. Very clean and amazing view. Great reception staff. The pool was good. The restaurant at night was lovely however…. We went for cocktails at 1630 and there was only 1 person on the bar and he was ran off his feet. It took us 35 minutes to get our cocktails. The restaurant food and service was great.

The hotel, lodges, location cleanliness, maintenance and housekeeping were fabulous. The stove restaurant has great food and service. What let’s this beautiful place down are the reception staff, to say they are unwelcoming, unhelpful and cold is an understatement. There is clearly a culture based on something other than civility and customer service. I hope whoever reads this from the hotel takes action as the reception and general/duty manager team are ruining your guests’ experience. I’ll be back as the location is perfect for walking and seeing the best of the lakes but I hope next time the reception staff can at least crack a smile and has some basic manners.

I definitely should have researched this hotel more thoroughly. The setting was superb, the staff very pleasant and friendly. Although the room was clean and well decorated, it had no view apart from a hedge. At £310 a night it was nothing short of a "rip off", needless to say wouldn't recommend.
