My partner and I stayed here for a spa and dine break in one of the waterside rooms. We arrived at 2pm and were pleased that our room was ready. The room was pleasant and the view over the water was a nice touch, although it could have done with a bit of freshening up. Unfortunately, we found several dead wasps in the room, which suggested it hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. Not a great first impression—especially as my partner has a wasp allergy. We headed straight to the spa, only to find that several parts of the ‘thermal experience’ were out of order. On top of that, there were workmen wandering through the spa fixing things, which made us feel very uncomfortable. We hadn’t been told about any of this at check-in or upon arrival at the spa, which we found quite frustrating. We tried to make the most of the rest of the day, but unfortunately the issues continued. When we arrived for dinner at The Stove restaurant, we were told there was work happening in the kitchen, meaning a reduced menu. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, which I had to have with potatoes instead of fries due to the ongoing kitchen work. The burger itself was underwhelming—the bacon was so minimal I could barely tell it was there. I also had one and an half smash burgers on the bun - should I of had two full burgers or just one burger and they were being generous giving me another half? Who knows! Overall, the food was okay, but nothing special. At checkout, I asked why we hadn’t been informed about the ongoing work ahead of our stay. I was told, “We didn’t know either—they just turned up. We’re starting to send emails out to let people know now.” This didn’t make much sense to me—surely work like this has to be pre-arranged and approved? I specifically raised the issue of workmen walking around the spa and the receptionist said she had no idea about that either. I completely understand that things break and maintenance is necessary, but it should be handled better—either fix things when guests aren’t trying to relax, or at the very least give people a heads-up. Nobody expects to be sharing spa space with builders in muddy boots while they’re walking around barefoot in a swimsuit. We’re very reasonable people—this is actually the first review I’ve ever written—but we were just so disappointed by the overall experience, especially after a 5-hour round trip and spending over £500 for a single night. The receptionist said a manager would call me later in the day to follow up. That call never came—not that I’m surprised anymore. It’s honestly shocking that neither the hotel nor the spa informed us of any issues at check-in, let alone before our stay. Guests should be given the option to reschedule or receive a reduced rate when disruptions like this are happening. Overall, we won’t be returning. Nothing was up to the standard you’d expect, the lack of communication and customer care was very disappointing!

The website wooed is into a false sense of security. Hats off to the marketing team. It wasn’t made clear that there would be hills and steps everywhere and my mum struggled. On arrival you could easily get confused where the lodge reception is and don’t get me started on where to find the room numbers and our room. We weren’t told there would be a limited menu at the Stove restaurant (because I’d refurb) and menu was incorrect. Pizzas were decent though. Some of the evening Staff were young and lovely but their skills need refining. Being called ‘guys’ is not something I would say is okay to an older mother and daughter. At 8.30pm we still had workman outside our room. None of the camps refurb plans were mentioned in advance. If we’d known this we’d have reconsidered booking. The spa was okay (apart from the rather scary receptionist). Breakfast was probably the best bit of the stay. Great sausages! The plants and flower baskets were clearly cared for and this helped our stay. I hope that someone reads this and makes improvements for future guests.

Estate with a slight Austrian ski village feel to it. Here for a business retreat. Meeting room was good and kept cool on a scorching day. Nice grounds to walk around with a couple of pubs within minutes. Sheep running free on the roads outside. Will review restaurant in a separate review. Bedroom was a decent size with air con, comfy bed, fridge and over bath shower. Nice views to the hills. Best of all were the blackout curtains with not a bit of early morning daylight getting through. Shame breakfast not served until 8am. Just a bit late in view of my plans. Parking spread across the estate.

We were disappointed with the overall stay. When we arrived the receptionist was unclear with how we’d find the room and didn’t confirm our spa and meal times. The room was tired, the rugs were filthy and the walls were all scuffed. It didn’t feel luxurious. The spa was ok but only a very small plunge pool and then several saunas/ steam rooms etc The restaurant meals were ok but my main was stone cold (I had beef). I didn’t complain as We’d waited a while that I didn’t want to send it back and then eat alone. Puddings were good. Breakfast is a buffet which was hit and miss in terms of quality. We wouldn’t return or recommend at £480.

Everything was just OK and at £300.00 a night I expected a little more , everything was clean and tidy , the staff were good but there was no wow factor ( apart from the scenery) The leisure facility was like a municipal leisure centre we stayed about 1/2 hour . The restaurant was OK for the evening meal , the food and especially the drinks were quite pricey. Breakfast the next day was self service , the food was not hot and not that good . The estate is like staying in a village with all the facilities in different buildings , the rooms ,the leisure facilities, and the restaurant. Which was not that great when it rained . Like other reviewers I didn’t read the reviews and was taken in by the website ( which is not clear what you get in the Langdale package ) in fact I was surprised to receive an email asking me if I wanted to spend a further £170.00 to use the Brimstone Spa facilities. As the photos of the Brimstone and standard leisure facilities were somewhat mixed up on the website it was not clear what was included. Two very positive issues though : There was a mixup with the payments my restaurant bill was taken twice on my card , this was resolved before I raised it once we got home . When we were about 10 minutes away from the hotel after checking out we got a call to say the chamber maid had found my ring on the bedside table and brought it up to reception, my fault great sentimental value and financial value. Great honesty from their staff . I am sorry we won’t be back , Langdale , either give more or charge less .

This is in an idyllic location, with stunning surroundings. The accomodation is beautiful hotel rooms or lodges, as well as a Spa and pub on the estate. The hotel room was finished to a high standard. The Stove restaurant was great for breakfast and evening dining, as well as Wainwrights Pub for a great bar meal. Another local pub is only 5 minutes walk out of the estate. A very peaceful, relaxing stay and other busier places such as Ambleside or Windermere only about 20 minutes drive away.

The most perfect location that I will return to. The room overlooking the lake was just stunning. Staff were brilliant, the view is sublime and the Food & Drink options are brilliant. Gluten-free and vegan options plentiful. I highly recommend for couples and families

Fab staff, gorgeous rooms and stunning food in The Stove. Spa needs to be extended to match the growing accommodation. Didn't get chance to do much in the spa because it was so busy. They also stop serving food very early in the spa deli so be prepared to go all day without eating if you have treatments booked in the afternoon. Long waits at reception. Check your bill as they do try to charge for things you haven't had or received.
