The Halepo hotel is situated uptown and in a quiet area ..Some 20mim. walk from the old town and harbor facing the sea, that is if you book one of the 2 rooms at the front of the hotel. It's a nostalgic building from the early 1900's. & one should expect at least some class in service..., well i didn't! I booked a full week in advance in the so called "best room" (Premium Superior Double on the website) in the old part of the house facing the courtyard and the sea" at €220,- per night. It's the room on the first floor on the righthand side of the stairs that is so prominent seen on pictures on the website of the Halepo Hotel and once you enter the Hotel. However to my surprise i was placed in the front room on the lefthand side seen from outside although i had booked the front room on the right. Further more there wasn't an airconditioning.? Although the website says with airconditioning! I wasn't pleased with that at first but for the rest it looked allright and i didn't want to make a fuss and so i decided to let it be. Second night at about 1.30 am i woke up due to a loud noise of voices outside the hotel coming from the terras/courtyard in front of the hotel where this Premium Superior Double room has its view on. Some 12 people/ guests who checked in that afternoon were sitting in the courtyard being served several bottles of wine consequently making a huge noise. After 2 times speaking to the night porter at the reception, who btw turned out to be the one responsible for serving the wine promised me to take action, i had to get out of my bed again and asked these (drunk) people to quiet down which to no surprise didn't help and actually got into almost a fight.. The next morning the manager (probably the son of a sheepfarmer with dito manners) 'apologized' to me and said that it wouldn't happen again. For me however felt that i couldn't take the risk of stayin' longer and have the rest of my stay there screwed again. I said i wanted to leave and have at least a refund for half that week (ca €650,-) He first said that according to the hotel policy only 5% could be given and it was me to blame that i hadn't been friendly to his guests who made the noise the other night. And then out of the blue he said he didn't like my attitude and he wasn't going give me anything.... I answered "good for you be happy with it if you desperatly need money so much" knowing there was nothing more for me than to take my loss of €650,- and leave. Fortunatly i found myself within minutes walking the most lovely place i could ever wish for called the Domo where i booked the top floor penthouse with a one million dollar view overlooking the sea and the old town of Chania still run by the Koutsoudakis family for over 50 years! The most warmth and true welcome i've ever experienced in my life! From hell to heaven one could say. And so if your looking for genuine class and nostalgia i recommend you to see the Domo hotel rather than that fake Halepo place..where i booke
