Danaos Hotel

The Danaos hotel has sadly gone down hill since the pandemic. The interior is a little bit tired and the furniture looks shabby and second hand. The beds creek in your sleep when one turns over in ones sleep. This is our 3rd stay at the Danaos and the owner has never acknowledged our visits. He is an elderly Greek man who prefers to interact with local men in the bar/breakfast area and shows no interest in the guests at the hotel. Nea Chora is a lovely spot and one of the nicest in Chania with a beautiful quiet sandy beech. It is really fabulous watching early morning bathers swim by on a really calm sea. What you don't want to see during your breakfast is an overweight vagrant with wet urine staines on his jogging bottoms snoring on a chair in the same area with his under fed dog begging for food at the tables of guests. It is also nice to have a drink or two in the bar area before venturing out in the night to find a restaurant. But what you don't want to see is one of the owners mates walking towards you with his hand in his tracksuit bottoms having a rummage around, going up to the bar to get a bowl of nuts and then back to his table and eating the nuts with said hand. Breakfast is served by a Greek lady that used to be happier and friendlier and is now a bit snappy..

We made a late booking and stayed 10 nights after another accomodation provider let us down. This person did us a favour because we had a wonderful stay at Danaos. Fair pricing for a room with a balcony with table and chairs right on the beach. Room was clean, new towels every second day, new sheets every third day. Just ask for towels for the beach. Beach chairs/table/umbrella for hire on the beach opposite the hotel at reasonable rate. Excellent basic breakfast included cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cake, tomato, cheese, meat, boiled eggs, tea, coffee, orange juice with very friendly service and choice to eat inside or outside overlooking the beach. Snacks, light meals and drinks available downstairs with beach views and also able to eat these on the beach. Staff have a good grasp of English and are friendly and aim to please. Many amazing restaurants within a few minutes walk and around 20mins walk to Old Town.

The hotel staff were lovely… in particular the cleaning staff and front desk ladies! If we needed anything they were right there! The room itself was a little outdated and so felt rather dingy, in particular the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a balcony with ocean view. Screen on the door would be great so to keep the fresh air in and out without the mosquitoes. Would also be great to have no smoking rooms for those of us who are sensitive to cigarette smoke. Overall and great stay!

The ratings are based on the excellent value for the price we paid. It's not the poshest hotel but it was clean and friendly and the location is excellent

Stayed here for one night in August 2023 Pros: 1) The good part of location is that the hotel is right on the beach. 2) The front desk staff speak excellent English 3) The WIFI is free and the speed and connectivity are good. 4) The room and bathrooms were very clean 5) There are several good restaurants within walking distance 6) Tariff is reasonable 7) The place is quite at night and sleep quality was good. 8) Air condition was available Cons: 1) There is no parking nearby. The closest car park was a good 10 to 15 min walk. Parking is a big issue with this hotel. 2) The room and bathroom are small. 3) The bad part of location is that it is far from the Old Town and the Venetian Harbour.

We stay at Danaos each year and never tire of the excellent service, lovely rooms and especially the lovely staff. The location is ideal, just across the road from the beach and 20 minutes from the harbour. That's why we keep going back!

Excellent hotel, well situated 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of Chania. Good rates, well equipped clean rooms. The hotel has a lift which is extremely useful when moving bags around. Right by the sea. Great bar and snack facilities.

We stayed here in May and June. Both times we had a fabulous stay. Simple rooms with a fabulous sea view. Fantastic location across the road from the beach and nearby seaside tavernas. Very nice helpful staff. Would definitely stay again. Loved having an evening drink downstairs on our way home, or a morning coffee.

We had an amazing stay! It was cheap for the view we had, the location was fantastic, and the service was excellent! I could not recommend this place enough as the staff were extremely helpful with anything we needed. Definitely will stay again if we go back to Chania!
