I was disappointed with my stay here. I had been following the pictures and images posted on social media and was eager to stay, when the time was right. I had a spare weekend and was looking for a bit of rest and relaxation so thought this would be a great pick, not far from London. The location is good, easy to get to from London. On arrival, I went straight to lunch, and chose a goats cheese sandwich, but asked for no walnuts - this couldn't be done, and I went for a second option of a duck salad, but I found the quality poor and barely ate any of it. To be fair the manager said I did not have to pay for it, but I was more interested in having something to eat than having a free lunch that I could not eat. The following morning we wandered to have a look at the facilities to see what we would do, but were not allowed to see what facilities were available, eg gym, or the library (which was booked for a private event). We proceeded to the lounge areas, but the dining options were poor (pretty much the same as the lunch that hadn't worked the previous day), so plenty of tea/coffee to drink, but nothing to go with it (a small complimentary biscuit but no scones, cakes etc other than large desserts). We decided to have afternoon tea and were delighted to get seats, after a 45 minute wait, so appreciated the restaurant manager fitting us in without a booking. However, it was a disappointment, I was looking for a standard english afternoon tea. I had seen many lovely pictures of same on social media, but what was presented was not to my taste nor like any of the images I had seen. Trying then to make a dinner booking was really difficult, so we didn't have a choice where we went. There were so many people in the hotel on the Saturday evening there was barely anywhere to sit and have a quiet drink. The breakfast room is quite stunning and the range of food available for breakfast was top class, some of the best I have seen in a long time. The hotel room we had was one of the most basic, but I thought it was lovely. It was well designed and kitted out, with a lovely big bathroom. So overall, there are some great things about this hotel - the grounds are stunning - but the sheer volume of people do not make it idyllic. I found the food options very poor and sections of the hotel blocked off to visitors. It was not the dreamy relaxing experience I thought it might be.
