Tucked away minutes from the charming and under appreciated Brentome is a dreamy 5 star resort that feels like an escape to Middle Earth of Frodo and Sam. It is a place to just sit and let your eye wonder around to all the details that makes this place magical. It was so good, that we didn’t leave for 24 hours and ate breakfast , lunch and dinner on the outside patio overlooking the running brook. It’s 4.8 on most booking sites for a reason. There was just nothing not to love.

I booked a 5 day visit to the Loire and Dordogne regions for my husband's birthday, basing the entire trip around our one night stay at this hotel on his actual birthday. However beautiful the pictures are, simply nothing can prepare you for the reality. This place is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. Just magical. The rooms downstairs are full of character and all tastefully decorated, but the decks, terraces and gardens are nothing short of sensational. Breathtaking. You wander around just ooohing and ahhhhing at every step. It's like being in a real-life painting. Our bedroom was so beautiful and looked out over the terrace and the flowing river. Again, stunning. We had a beautiful meal outside for dinner and met some awesome people who we sat with in the lounge for drinks afterwards. The service and every single person who helped us or served us were friendly and warm. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the whole 24 hours we were there feels like a dream you don't want to wake up from. We visited Brantome (wow wow wow) and Grotte Da Villars (the most exceptional cave in the area) in our way to our next stop. We had the BEST time. It exceeded our very high expectations.

Unlike the “could be anywhere” accommodations commonly offered to travelers these days, Le Moulin du Roc is memorable for its location, amenities, and service. We have visited Brantome regularly over the last two decades and stayed at the Moulin on most of those occasions including on our most recent visit in September 2024. We judge it the best among several very good accommodations in the area. Set in a garden near the village of Champagnac de Belair, an easy 10 minute drive from Brantome, the old mill and connected buildings house charming and unique rooms. The restaurant experience has remained among the best we've had in rural France. The food, as always, was well prepared and the service excellent. The Maitre d’/sommelier, who has served us on several visits, is a true professional who clearly wants guests to relax and enjoy themselves. We recommend starting dinner with an aperitif in the salon, adjoining the dining room, and ending there with tea or after dinner drink. Staying at Moulin du Roc remains, we believe, the best way to enjoy Brantome and the lovely surrounding region.

This hotel is just picture perfect. It’s located on a beautiful river with many rooms facing it. The architecture of the hotel is wonderful to look at from your deck, the grounds are huge and gorgeous. This is a very special place. We stayed in a deluxe room with terrace, and that terrace was huge! Perfect view of the river and beautiful side of the building. Room décor was a little dated, but nice. Service was excellent. Ate at the hotel for dinner and breakfast which were both excellent. Restaurant beautifully appointed, great service and food. Don’t miss this one if you want something special.

We stayed for 2 nights when we visited the Dordogne region, if you are looking for the best place to stay, relax and have excellent food. Then this is the place to stay. The best experiences on our road trip in France this year.

The location is lovely, the service - greeting, front desk, restaurant, chefs - was first class. Everyone seemed happy to be working there. Our friendly Maitre de was helpful enough to draw one of our possible choices - oursin- picture attached. I asked for a signed copy as he is clearly an artist! No it’s not a prairie oyster. Dinner was excellent and breakfast did not disappoint with eggs prepared as requested. We’re back in September.

Our stay at Moulin du Roc was nothing short of spectacular. The inn feels like walking into a dream. The inn is nestled next to a quietly flowing river, in the country side, it feels secluded and special. Once inside the inn, you notice the exquisite furnishings, and the warm greetings of the people who work there. The restaurant has beautiful oil paintings, and apples over the tables and in the bookshelves, it feels like entering a Dutch still life painting. Very poetic, but also warm and casual. Our room was carpeted, and very comfortable. Lamps everywhere, and a comfortable mattress and pillows. We slept very well!!! Our room had a full size bathtub, and a wonderful shower with powerful water flow, that gave a spa feeling. A very large bathroom, felt very luxurious.. Breakfasts at the inn was absolutely delicious, as was dinner. The preparation and design of the food is both comforting and complex, and the service is nothing short of excellence! I absolutely loved the apples on the tables, and the beautiful prism lighting. It made dining in the interior and on the patio to be magical experience. It is these little touches that makes this inn so wonderful! Also the side lounge is so comfortable, they played jazz, and we sat in the lounge after dinner relaxing and taking it all in. I would have loved to have a digestif in this lounge if they offered it, something local like a walnut wine or eau de vie. This inn feels like staying at an intimate bed and breakfast. You feel the soul and the warmth. I am so happy we decided to stay here for 3 nights! We were a bit worried it might feel too remote, and also considered staying in Brantome, but I am so so happy we did not. Brantome is wonderful and we explored it thoroughly, but this inn made the visit to this area of the countryside memorable. Driving every night back to the inn after touring the area felt the perfect way to end the day. We did not get a chance to play tennis, or swim in the pools, but they do offer this.

Unfortunately, we had only booked one night here on our way north and we wish we had booked more - we absolutely loved this hotel. From the moment we arrived, when a member of the Team came out to the car park to welcome us, we had a most memorable time in this little haven of peace and tranquility. It is the most amazing conversion of an old mill, retaining the heritage of the mill but encapsulating excellent traditional decor and furnishings in the public rooms. There is a lovely terrace/deck suspended over the river with comfortable seating ideal for a pre dinner aperitif. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and we were lucky enough to have amazing weather so an excellent dinner and excellent breakfast were taken on another delightful terrace next to the river. With fresh linen table clothes, lovely individual lighting on the tables and impeccable service it was an amazing experience. The swimming pool situated in the extensive gardens reached by a small bridge over the stream added to our enjoyment of our stay. The bedroom, again, met and exceeded all our expectations - all the facilities you needed, plus a beautiful bathroom with a large walk in shower and a jacuzzi bath. Perfect. What a perfect place to stay on our way back to catch the ferry - it really was in our view the most perfect example of how a character hotel in the Dordogne should be, and we can't wait to return. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel so welcome.
