Avoid at all costs! Don’t trust the photos—they make the place look way better than it really is. The rooms above the restaurant are tiny, unbearably hot, and worst of all: flies everywhere. In your room, at breakfast… you can’t escape them. The breakfast is just sad: cheap industrial food, no taste, nothing fresh. And because of the insane number of flies, they have to cover everything… not exactly appetizing. As for dinner? A total rip-off. €35 per person (drinks not included!) for a tuna-stuffed egg as a starter, a plate of white beans, rice, tomatoes and some mystery ingredients as a main, and a slice of pineapple with ice cream for dessert. Do yourself a favor: go eat in Horta. You’ll eat much better, for much less.

My twin sister and I booked the 6-day riding holiday and would recommend it wholeheartedly! Faial island is beautiful with varied terrain and steeped in history. We encountered lush, tropical forests, extinct volcanoes, and rolling green hills. The horses were in excellent condition, sure-footed and responsive. Nothing bothered them at all! Our guides were knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. We loved each day as it held a unique experience - traversing an extinct volcano in the mist, cantering under wind turbines, winding along rugged coast line. An experience not to be missed!

The staff at Patio Lodge were very friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Our Horseback ride for 1.5 hours on the Lusitano Trail was a fantastic experience. As beginners, the ride was appropriately tailored to our level of skill. Our guide Durlav was excellent, providing training and guidance along the journey as needed. He shared interesting insights about the island and its history throughout the ride. Would definitely recommend!

Riding and guide were perfect, but I won’t stay again. Booked into a mini cabin off site which was full of cockroaches. Moved to a great room the next day but not refunded for the horrible Night of the Cockroaches. The included dinner was pretty bad. Staff fantastic though.

It’s not a 4*. We were at the tiny house and during the day was impossible to stay inside even for few minutes. Too hot. No air condition, ok, but you must let your customers stay inside. Not clean. We found hairs in the bathroom and in the bed. Breakfast was as 2* hotel. Very few things and flies everywhere. I understand the room is near the horses but you can’t cover the foods with with napkins.

I booked an all-inclusive trip to Azores with WWE, which was hosted at Patio Lodge. Angelique is the BEST hostess, an absolute treasure at Patio. She ensured our activities were coordinated on time and accompanied our group on several lovely adventures around the island. The focus of the trip was horseback riding, and you will not find better scenery in the world to explore on horseback. Be honest about your riding ability, as the Lusitano horses are fast moving and the trail guides need an accurate gauge on rider ability before matching you with a horse and trail plan. Don't miss the caldeira hike around the rim of the volcano. Thanks to Angelique and the courteous staff at Patio, I've fallen in love with the island of Faial and hope to return someday.

This lodge is in a stunning location on the island immerse yourself in nature. We loved seeing the horses and the lovely Labrador. You can see a baby horse bonding with her mother. We came at the start of their season. We are a couple wanting a romantic adventure. The downside to staying here is that the staff is turning over and the food and service was a disappointment. We had to tell the staff to bring us utensils and the challenge was their English was limited . The meal I had was overcooked and was not editable. The coffee was cold and staff did not how to work the machine there needs to be training with staff . As new guests the owner should of introduced himself and checked in re how the stay was going . The rooms are clean but for a couple pulling two single beds together does not make for a romantic evening the mattress was not comfortable and the pillowswwere soft. The horseback riding was a highlight of our trip

Probably the worst place to stay in Faial. They serve you water from the tap, and say is Portuguese water, the wine is the same, the serve you the worse Portuguese wine, from a box, and say it's from Pico wine or other DOC region. They treat people with a fake smile and treat the staff very badly.
