Pillows Hotel Cebu

On the surface there are no immediate problems with the hotel, moderately clean, staff were friendly. However unlike the reviews we noticed that the location was not ideal even to backpackers. Hard to walk through certain areas of Cebu from the hotel. Felt unsafe. We initially thought we’d go and get some food to have in and stay in for the night however near to 10pm whilst trying to sleep there was a lot of weird noises inside the hallways of the hotel and outside the window. It almost felt like locals were in and out potentially. Unsure of this though. It was hard to sleep and felt very unsafe so we booked into another hotel for the night and checked out at midnight. There was a small blood stain on my bedding which I only noticed later on otherwise I’m sure staff would have changed this. There is also a late night ‘massage’ service from 10pm to 2am in the hotel so unsure what sort of hospitality service the hotel was. We booked this prior to seeing reviews about bugs in the room as we wouldn’t have booked it in the first place so this seems a new thing however there was a beetle and flies in the bathroom when we arrived so we kept the door shut to our bedroom area. Later when opening the bathroom door there was more flies so unsure where they came from.

The area or the location of the hotel is very accessible and good for business meet ups. Simple and a very modest hotel and very comfortable. Also, its room rates are not that expensive.

Check in and check out process both commendable, very quick. Room review: Bed and pillow were so comfortable to lay in. You’ll have a good night sleep in this hotel. It smelt fresh too. Cold AC and working television. Shower was also good, working shower heater. The room was spacious, paid $23 for a night, not bad. I’d stay here again if needed in the future. Cleanliness: Some areas needed improvement. Wardrobe was dull and dirty. Dusty night stand. Also noticed the comforter has tiny ink stains. And the towels, they smelt nice like laundry/ good detergent smell but they need to do better with washing off the stains. Breakfast: Had the bacon, rice and hard boiled egg. It was ok. I commend the staff for serving it quickly. Staff: Very courteous and attentive. Requested for a room with window, it was granted but no view 😂 All I see was a dark wall which made the room gloomy. Elevator sometimes get crowded, will take a while to be used better use the staircase if you are in a hurry. WIFI was bad, intermittent signal. And the entire day I didn’t have a good phone reception. So mobile data is useless.

I loved how responsive the hotel was when i requested for my friend to be added as a guest. The people at the reception were helpful and courteous. The room itself was spacious and clean. I see reviews about the rooms not having an aircon that can cool the room, it only took me a few adjustment and it got cold, the controls were just confusing. What I liked the most was that the breakfast was available all throughout the day so my friend who was partying a lot at night was happy to hear he could still have "breakfast" in the afternoon haha.

About 10-12 cockroaches in room and bathroom. No mini fridge. Bed gave me itchy back with red spots that lasted days after I left. bed bugs possibly.

The location is good, because it's near several establishments within Cebu City. They also had free parking subject to a first-come, first-served basis. In terms of service, they were very responsive to our inquiries and requests for assistance and acted quickly to serve us. Overall, it's good enough for budget travellers given the price. However, it's not thoroughly clean. They also did not provide hotel slippers, and the free breakfast was very simple and light. But I would argue that these are minor inconveniences for most people.

I loved my stay there. Especially that I forgot to request for a housekeeping but they took the initiative to do so.

Location is great. Room has a window but no view but its okay since we book it only for resting purposes. Room is always clean every time we came back from a trip. Its great. Staff are very prompt and approachable. Breakfast is good. Will definitely came back and refer this to our friends., ☺️
