We spent an evening at Kilronan castle where we celebrated a special occasion for my wife. The F&B team did a fantastic job and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We had the chefs table tasting menu. The food was fabulous and expertly described by F&B manager, Alex. We thoroughly enjoyed our night. The castle was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights (including New Years’ Eve). We visited the spa and had treatments, dined in the casual restaurant for lunch and dinner, enjoyed 2 breakfasts, entertainment in the Dungeon Bar, relaxed and read newspapers with the library, walked the extensive grounds and enjoyed the New Years’ Eve 8 course tasting menu. I have stayed in lots of 4 and 5 star properties in Ireland over the past few years and have to say that this hotel really stood out in terms of service, decor and ambiance, warmth, food quality and presentation. There were also 2 weddings which took place but we did not hear or see them, which meant that we could continue to enjoy our break away. Many thanks to all the staff. We hope to return in the future.

Myself and my two friends visited the hotel at the weekend for afternoon tea. On arrival, we were not sure where to go and when asked the bar staff if we were located in right area of the hotel, the staff member made us feel uncomfortable by her mannerism towards us. We were early so decided to have a drink, found the drink expensive which you would expect from a hotel however the mocktail was the same price as a cocktail, delicious to taste but surely shouldn’t be priced the same as cocktail? My friends pint of Guinness wasn’t poured as you’d expect a pint of Guinness to be poured more so ‘rushed’ which spoilt the overall taste. Afternoon tea itself was really tasty highly recommend and credit to the Chef in an enjoyable atmosphere and the hotel itself was lovely and festive, we will definitely return. We just felt the bar service was a let down to the overall experience.

We arrived for afternoon Tea and were told to head to the small bar. We were greeted in the little bar room by hesitance by the young staff as if they didn’t want us there, when we said we were there for afternoon tea we were quickly told we were in the wrong area, felt like we were bothering them! we stayed for a drink as we were a little early so I decided to have a Guinness, to my shock it was poured straight to the top in one and let spill and over flow everywhere (no settling in this spot) I did see her do it for a gentleman so not sure if this was just a problem with myself ordering, I chanced a second one and again she done the exact same thing. Would not recommend a pint here. Overall the afternoon itself was fabulous the chef is a credit and the staff in where it was served were very accommodating. We did notice another table did get mince pies with there’s and a couple more things than we did but we didn’t mind too much.. It was a beautiful atmosphere and very well set up and laid out. The hotel itself is beautiful and it’s decorated beautifully for Christmas.

Have visited 5 or 6 times in the past 3 years. Beautiful castle and so much more special at Christmas. Have to agree with previous review about weddings taking priority. Looking for food seems to have become an issue. Drawing room not serving any food Saturday or Sunday, and it's a lovely place to sit. Sent from there to Resturaunt, this was 12. 30 Saturday told they were running late after breakfast and couldn't get lunch until 1. The casual dining spot was being used for a civil ceremony, couldn't walk through to rooms, spa ect. had to go outside. Had food there Sunday and it just lacks any intimacy , very open people walking up and down as all elevators for rooms here as well as wedding reception down the stairs. Huge footfall going through and while I enjoyed the food the portions were tiny. Paid 16 euro for 3 crab claws, they were cold and chewy. Paid 15 euro for a chicken croquettes...one croquette arrived, gorgeous but tiny. Big bowl of soup for other half and a good sandwich so overall happy with casual dining. Dinner in Douglas Hyde. ...I like fine dining but very limited menu, a bit over the top for me example pigeon, venison as your mains. Artichoke soup, ceviche fish or one other starter. We had set menus.. teeny tiny amounts of food and I'm not a big eater. Starter and canapés I did not enjoy. Mains was fabulous but not even a starter size portion. We had beef Wellington and halibut. Dessert good, 35 quid bottle of wine and kids fish and chips was 202 Euro....not value for money in my opinion. Had great spa experience, Marena was excellent, I was so relaxed after it. Great facilities. Reception staff lovely and helpful. English lady in the casual dining area, blonde hair very nice and helpful. Got me soup eventually at 4pm when I couldn't get any lunch at 12.30 before my spa. Would I come back....absolutely.. our room was lovely too. Is it value for money probably not or if you don't want to break the bank stick with casual dining. ...also the beautiful little cookies you got with your coffee seems to be gone?? Small touch but always a lovely treat with a great cappuccino. If you can fix issues when weddings on and ensure quests still have use of drawing room and dining options be back to 5 stars!!

My sister and I only had one night as visiting in area but really impressed. Room spacious and very comfortable, lovely beds. Took the casual dining option and food was great, beer battered fish and chips, Bombay chicken curry and Shepards pie all good size and tasty. Only thing is water should be left on table , it was a pain trying to attract attention for refills. Had pre and post dinner drinks in drawing room which was comfortable but whatever about having to go up and order and pay mabey they could at least be dropped down to table . The staff all over were so lovely ,sorry I don't have names. Looking forward to a return soon and get to use Spa and pool area.

We spent 2 night in Kilronan, it was a very good value deal. The location is fabulous, the castle is amazing. Check in was smooth & the staff were friendly over the 3 days we were there. Our room was fine, we stayed in 420, the bed was very comfortable, but the room was dusty, the small chandelier was filthy with dust. The amenities in the room were poor, an old hairdryer, a basic kettle set up for tea & coffee. There was also a strong smell of food in the room. We used the thermal spa & had some treats as part of our package. It was a pleasant experience overall, however most people had their mobiles in the spa area when clearly there were signs everywhere that they were not allowed, this was disappointing. The food, we ate in the Douglas Hyde restaurant on Sunday night, the service was super, food was lonely. No complaints. The breakfast was lovely, with plenty of options and good service. The so called bar food was absolutely not the usual bar food, it’s way too formal and stuffy. The drawing room was a joke, the bar staff didn’t do table service or make the cocktails correctly, one bar man even pored a glass of Guinness into a slim Jim glass, not even a half pint glass, this is absolutely disgraceful. The bar shelves were also very dusty & the staff had to be asked to clear the tables. At no stage during our stay did we see a manager which in my opinion is poor in a so called 4 star hotel. I’m my honest opinion this hotel provides 3 star amenities & service. The location is 4 star but that’s it.

Stayed 2 nights here. Very relaxing. Nice big room and bathroom. We had dinner in the Douglas Hyde Restaurant, it was a culinary delight. Our package included the use of the spa and spa treatments. Everything was excellent. Great professional therapists. We had drinks in the little bar room it was so cosy. There was a wedding on when we arrived, the venue for the wedding is so discreet and never encroaches on the other guests. We will be back .
