Stayed 2 nights here. Very relaxing. Nice big room and bathroom. We had dinner in the Douglas Hyde Restaurant, it was a culinary delight. Our package included the use of the spa and spa treatments. Everything was excellent. Great professional therapists. We had drinks in the little bar room it was so cosy. There was a wedding on when we arrived, the venue for the wedding is so discreet and never encroaches on the other guests. We will be back .

This castle is even more impressive than the photos. The grounds had hiking trails around the lake. We wanted to feel like we were staying in a real castle and this place delivered. The lobby and rooms had beautiful, ornate furnishings. The food was incredible and the staff was amazing.

This place was amazing. Great food amazing scenery. There was a really cool pool and spa but we were there so short of a time and we’re starting to get sick from travel that we did not get to use it. The 8 course tasting menu and the nearby distillery tour were also highlights.

Wonderful indulgence! Beautiful grounds and accommodation. Stayed in a room in the original castle — in the main tower. High tea in the drawing room was scrumptious. Thermal pools in the spa were worth the price of the spa treatments - get there early and enjoy them by yourself in blissful serenity. Breakfast looking over the lake was a relaxing joy. And Mary at breakfast was truly the epitome of world-class service and hospitality. One warning: the drinks in the Dungeon Bar (great name!) are awfully sweet. Ask them to hold the sugar. Seriously.

Just after a one night stay in Kilronan castle. I don't review very often but Kilronan castle and it's staff deserve the best review I can possibly give. ..... The warmest welcome at reception.... The cosy impeccably clean bedroom and bathroom.....styled in a fashion to complement the old worldly feel of the Castle itself. The beautiful walk around the grounds taking you through the forest and by the lakeside seats and picnic benches along the routes map provided when we checked in. .... despite the weather we completed the longest route and it was worth it. Then the absolute highlight.....wow....the food .....we had the 8 taster menu as part of our package.....every mouthful was just bursting with flavour and presentation was like art on a plate so colourful been from a cheffing background I totally appreciated the amount of work that went into every detail on our plates. Absolutely beautiful meal and served in the deserving manner it should be by the waiting staff who knew the plates inside out and very willingly shared this information with us. Attentive but not intrusive waiting staff . I can't speak highly enough of our visit to kilronan castle the only negative was perhaps the lack of atmosphere or entertainment in the basement bar i know this may have been because it was a Tuesday night but it would have been nice to have some easy listening music such as someone playing piano and low lights rather than bright lightnng and TV blaring to finish off the night after such a fantastic experience in Douglas Hyde restaurant but thats just my personal opinion. Definitely will be back.

An absolutely stunning place to stay that is also very majestic. It would be a perfect place for a wedding too. Away from all the hustle and bustle the hotel is very peaceful and quiet. The staff was very helpful, the food was delicious, the rooms were quite nice with updated posh bathrooms, and the beds and pillows were a dream and so comfy! The spa was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed my massage. Make sure to bring a bathing suit because you will want to go swimming. The grounds are immaculate and take time to walk the trail. It’s beautiful. You won’t be disappointed if you are looking for peace and solitude.

Splendid place with character. Well appointed rooms in the middle of seemingly nowhere. BUT.. the place seems underserviced and staff stressed and, at least on one occasion, a bit snarly. Notable exception was the Polish bartender in the Library bar. Friendly and accomadating.

The castle is lovely and well maintained. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We didn’t use the spa facilities so can’t comment on that but seemed nice. Our room was beautiful and welcoming. The big miss was dinner at the Douglas Hyde restaurant. The food was inventive and creative but not particularly flavourful and portions were on the small size. Our big complaint was the service - or rather the lack thereof. When initially seated we put in our drink orders for a glass of wine each. I asked to keep the wine menu because we wanted to get a second glass of wine during our dinner. We were told we could not keep the wine menu at the table because this is a fine dining establishment. Not a big problem. We understood they want the tables to look a certain way however we never had an opportunity to order a second glass of wine because the staff never came back! Over the two hours we were never asked if we wanted another glass of glass of wine. The food was brought by the kitchen staff so we didn’t ask them. We did get our water topped up once during the two hours near the end of our two hours there at which time we decided that we were not going to bother with another glass of wine right before desserts. in fact, we almost walked away from the desserts because we were so tired of waiting for service and thought the desserts would take a very long time as well ( they didn’t ). It’s possible the staff were overworked, but it didn’t appear to be very busy. There were two servers on from what we could tell and maybe five or six tables between them so we were very confused as to why everything took so long and we didn’t get water topped up or have an opportunity to order a second glass of wine. The food was also very slow coming out of the kitchen. While we understand this is a fine dining restaurant so there may be waiting time ,it would’ve been lovely to sit with a glass of wine rather than just sitting around waiting for our food. Our experience the next morning in the same restaurant for breakfast was a completely different experience . The servers were attentive and checked in on us frequently and the food was good. One other thing to note is that the website for the castle provides you the opportunity to book a distillery tour, which we did book. We assumed, incorrectly, that the distillery shed was located on the castle grounds, but in fact, it was 15 minutes away by car. If we had known that we wouldn’t have bothered to book it because we didn’t want to drink and drive. There is apparently an option to take a taxi to the distillery and back, however we were not confident that we would be able to get the taxi when we wanted it and would have to wait so we asked if we could cancel the distillery. Reception staff were gracious and took care of it for us. So in the end, no complaints on the distillery tour however it might be useful to be clear that the distillery is a 15 minute drive away and not on the castle
