Cardiff Sandringham Hotel

Castle|0.17km from St David's Hall
I stayed here Friday night as I was attending a wedding. There was limited accommodation available in Cardiff city centre due to a few events being on and all the hotels I usually stay at were either fully booked or had tripled in price so I stayed here. I arrived at just gone 4 to drop my case off and freshen up as it was 35°! I was greeted by a lovely lady and directed to my room on the second floor. Yes the hotel isn't suitable for those with mobility issues, but this is clearly stated on sites as there is no lift. My room, linen and towels were spotlessly clean. Plenty of tea and coffee supplied and 2 bottles of water which was welcome because of the heat. There was also a fan in the room which you don't get in many hotels and again very welcome. I went to the reception returning at 1am and greeted by the night Watchman, another lovely member of staff who asked if I'd enjoyed the wedding and let me in a few time after while I popped out for cigarettes and chatted. I usually book a double room but none were available but the beds were 3/4 so plenty of room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep until 7am. I was woken by the property next door making an awful lot of noise for half an hour. Not the hotels fault and I believe they supply ear plugs if you ask, as I was at the back I didn't ask. After a lovely shower I packed up and went to check out. Check out, like check in was speedy with the same lovely lady who asked how the wedding had been. Left my bags there while I went shopping and picked them up a couple of hours later. I had a phone call after that as I'd left my spare phone in the room. Unfortunately I was on the way home but she arranged for my cousin to pick it up. I will definitely stay again. Cheaper than my usual hotels and just as close to the shops and pubs.

Holiday Inn Cardiff City Centre

Stopped at Holiday Inn Cardiff from Friday to Sunday to see the speedway at principality stadium. Hotel was perfect location for us. Easy to park at the hotel which was an added bonus as at other hotels we’ve had to park at NCPs. Rooms were good and spotlessly clean. The air conditioning worked extremely well and was a nice change from the heatwave outside! Hotel was very quiet which was surprising given how busy it was. Had breakfast both mornings, which had a good choice with the buffet being topped up regularly. Despite being an extremely busy weekend we were seated instantly and didn’t have to wait for the buffet top ups. The only thing letting the hotel down and giving a reduction in rating was reception. The receptionists came across very cold and did not display the “true hospitality” which we usually see at IHG hotels. Did not feel welcomed at all. The coldness and abruptness was felt at both check in and check out by different staff.

The hotel is located in the city of Cardiff, 400 meters from the commercial center and less than one kilometer from the castle. World chain hotels, standardized management, a hundred times stronger than the old hotels in the UK, the price is not expensive in advance. First choice abroad.

The hotel is in a good location, right in the city centre, a 10-minute walk from the train station. However, there is a bar downstairs, which will be a bit noisy at night, but it does not affect sleep. The hotel is clean and recommended.

We arrived a bit early and were able to leave our luggage in the storage room and we received a ticket for this which was good. Our room was really comfortable and there was ample space to hang up my dresses. The bathroom was a good size and there was a bath. We were on the railway station side but with the window closed, you could barely hear them. The bed was comfortable. The staff were really kind and helpful. You could hear people coming back into their rooms and unlocking their doors which could be a bit disconcerting but overall I really liked the hotel. Easy to walk to the main stations and along the river.

This is in a great location but surrounded by pubs & bars so be prepared for noise. in view of that, I booked a standard plus room on the top floor, ended up at the back of the hotel so was much quieter in comparison to a room on a lower floor near the front. Room clean, tidy, everything you needed but it was quite hot as summer decided to show up, no air-con in the room but reception found me a (quite loud) fan but did the trick. Reception staff all really friendly & approachable. Sadly what you can't prepare for are inconsiderate guests. Presumably by booking a standard plus 3rd floor room they were also looking for a little quiet, but various guests had no problems in slamming doors at 11.40pm Saturday & at 3.10am & 5.20am on Sunday as they were coming in. Sunday night / Monday morning was OK though. While I'd would book again for weekdays, I'd probably so elsewhere on a weekend.
