After a busy week in London for business, my wife and I spent a lovely weekend at the Manor House in Castle Combe. For anyone looking for the quintessential picture-book English country estate, you cannot go wrong with The Manor House, which isn't simply near Castle Combe (one of the most beautiful Cotswold villages in the area), but actually integrated within the village itself. The first thing you notice about the Manor House when coming down the drive is the impeccably manicured grounds the hotel sits upon. Then you see the Manor House itself in all its glory. From top to bottom, the hotel is extremely well appointed. Historic, but not stuffy. Luxurious but not pretentious. We stayed in the Wellow cottage just up the drive from the house itself. The rooms mirror the surroundings with stone and wood throughout. The luxury bathroom with dual tubs and a large shower was the size of our London hotel room. The beds are soft and pillowy, and the wifi is strong. When it comes to service, the staff is wonderful and helpful. The food selection is perfect and the ability to order food and enjoy it in any of the Manor House rooms, or the outside lawn was a wonderful option. The included breakfast was wonderful, with a cooked option as well as a buffet. If you want a quick bite, you just need to stroll down the street to the Castle Inn - an adjoining pub with a great, changing menu. Bybrook, the hotel's signature restaurant deserves its Michelin star with an outstanding 7 course tasting menu. I cannot recommend the Manor House enough. From location, to ambiance, to the helpful staff, this property needs to be top on your list for a Cotswolds holiday.
