Baglio Dello Zingaro

Paid for a deluxe room which was supposed to have three beds. The photos show three beds. This was not what we got. We only got one double bed. Property apologised and said they needed others for other guests. Also appears as though housekeeping went through personal luggage. High season so no recourse or refund offered. When I complained the property owner was rude and physically pushy.

Very bad experience at the end of the season, hotel four but run by incompetent people. Breakfast poor and without any typical products and not suitable for us Northern European tourists. Abandoned swimming pool without any service and not clean. Never again in this place with this management.

The hotel occupies a prime position in Scopello, and has its own private parking. Staff are friendly and helpful - check in was prompt and we were provided useful advice for our Zingaro hike and what to do in /around Scopello itself. Rooms were comfortable and quiet - we had a small balcony facing the mountain. When we checked out the owner personally came to bid us farewell - a nice touch. The hotel has a great pool but due to restricted hours, we were unable to use it during our stay here. Breakfast spread is lavish and served in a bright and airy room near reception.

This hotel was nice, but my god walking up that steep little hill to it in the heat was awful!!! The room I had was a touch small for me - I like space - but the bed was comfy and the air con was good, but I would like to see fly screens so that the windows could be opened for air to reduce air con use. Unfortunately the people in the room beside me had no respect for others and woke me at 00:30 by having a mini party on their balcony right beside my window, but the hotel addressed it promptly and told then to shut up, which I really appreciated. The rooms could maybe benefit from a little soundproofing, I think, as you could hear tvs on too. The colours in the rooms and bed style and covers feel dated to me, but I like lighter colours, and I think a paint job to lighter versions would really elevate the look of the rooms, as well as lighter linens, but this is probably just down to personal preference as my mum on video call really liked it! It was a decent room, in any case. Nice breakfast, in a clean dining room, and staff are very helpful and pleasant. The pool was nice, but I think it needs a new coating to the base, as you could see it starting to peel in places, but it was a good size and attractive, so that’s just a maintenance thing. The staff used those pool vacuums to remove debris from plants, so it is obviously maintained regularly, but presumably they will address the coating out of season. The pool area was nice, but I think it would benefit from loungers that have those face covers, and larger umbrellas for shade. I was lucky in that nobody was around so I was moving from a shaded lounger to a non-shaded one! Just a note for people wanting to buy water: the local shop isn’t great, but the market scoppello is good. Unfortunately it is over 1.5km away, on a road with no pavements. And it is downhill, so you walk back up the hill carrying your purchases. I did it at night when it was cooler, but it was quite dangerous in the dark. It would be beneficial for the hotel to have a shuttle each evening there and back for a minimal fee of say €1, or for them to ask the shop to do a delivery service? Decent place, and scoppello is very pretty. If you are a cat lover, come prepared to feed all the stray kittens. Broke my heart to see a few very skinny ones.
