Hotel shot to fame thanks to a featured on the famous show "4 Hotel," has made headlines—but not for the right reasons. We all know that when a big opportunity arises, we put our best foot forward. But such a stark contrast between what’s shown on TV and what’s actually offered to guests later reeks of mediocrity. First, applause for the restoration work reviving this borgo (historic village) into a "diffused hotel" in a challenging-to-promote area of Italy. The idea and effort are first-class, but guest management is third-world. We booked a quadruple room (€308 for 2 nights, breakfast included)—a high price for the area, but understandable. You’d expect to feel "pampered and cared for." Instead: Room access: Steep steps (we carried the stroller with our 5-month-old inside; our 3-year-old walked). Outdated room: Rustic ≠ neglected. The "sofa bed" for our child was by the entrance, where cold air seeped through unsealed gaps. Uncomfortable bedding: A 17th-century-style sofa bed with a thin mattress and protruding metal bars. We used blankets from our car to pad it. No crib sheets, just a bare mattress. Tiny, ancient TV (non-functional despite advertised Sky service). Insects everywhere (small cockroaches, spiders) on our child’s bed and seating area. Broken heaters! Reported immediately, but "too late to fix" (10 PM). No resolution until Night 2—and only partial. One night of freezing with a baby and toddler, surrounded by bugs. All documented. Their excuse? "It’s a rustic structure." My reply: *"But with 5-star resort prices!"* Indifference followed. Room details: Spacious but overly rustic. Mini-fridge (90s era), barely any kitchenware. Bathroom: Camping-style plastic shower (Balkans, 90s vibe), oddly high toilet seat (unnatural even at 188cm tall). Minimal toiletries (just shampoo/body wash). Freezing cold. Breakfast: Compare the "4 Hotel" episode to reality—false advertising, but we’ll overlook it (post-COVID, October). Limited buffet but decent quality. Kudos to Valentina, the only empathetic, professional staff member. Spa: Nice but overlooks a parking lot. Paid extra; cramped changing rooms. Missed potential. Final insult: No apologies, discounts, or empathy. The manager avoided us, radiating embarrassment but zero accountability. Verdict: Beautiful location, admirable borgo revival. But management is stuck in a "pastoral Molise fantasy"—if you’re a shepherd (noble work!), don’t pretend to run a luxury resort. Lacking empathy, education, and humility.

We spent four nights at Borgotufi while visiting my wife’s cousins in Castel del Giudice. A true hidden, and unexpected, gem in Molise. We had a one bedroom suite, with a loft for our daughter - rustic and charming, yet luxurious at the same time. Easy walk into the center of Castel del Giudice. The hotel had a fantastic terrace overlooking Abruzzi across the valley - great location for having an afternoon or evening drink. Breakfast was okay, but certainly adequate. I know there is a high-end restaurant on site, but we did not visit it. I can’t recommend this hotel enough! A perfect four night stay.

Our stay at Borgotufi Albergo Diffuso was an absolute nightmare. We stayed for four nights, and I can't express enough how disappointed we were with the entire experience. Firstly, the hotel failed to inform us about a wedding party that took place during our stay. The noise was unbearable, lasting until 12:30 am. This level of disturbance is completely unacceptable, especially for a place that advertises itself as a peaceful retreat. The breakfast was mediocre at best. While the wedding guests were present, there were flies all over the cheese and prosciutto. It was disgusting. Once the wedding party left, the situation went from bad to worse. There was virtually no breakfast available, and when we asked the lady at the reception (the one with black hair) for something cooked, she bluntly told us that we couldn't have anything because the chef wasn't there. This level of unprofessionalism is astounding. However, I must acknowledge that the cleaning staff is fantastic. They worked hard to keep the room clean. Unfortunately, the reception staff is very unfriendly and unwelcoming. To top it off, this place is grossly overpriced. We felt completely ripped off for what we received. There are much better options in the area. We discovered a lovely homestay nearby that is quiet, comfortable, and more than half the price of this so-called hotel. Save your money and your sanity. Do not stay at Borgotufi Albergo Diffuso. Look for other accommodations in the area; you’ll be much happier with your choice.

Room was ‘shabby’ in need of redecoration. Cracks in wall, scuffed paint, ripped pillow case, hole in wall, dust & cobwebs, resident spider! Damp wall discolouration in bedroom. No sound insulation could hear baby crying & chairs dragging next door. Spa pool- mild around window, broken glass window, damaged plaster, automatic doors not working. On the positive side front line staff were friendly & helpful but directors need to spend the money to make improvements.

We had a beautiful weekend in this hotel surrounded by the nature. All the services are centrally located but there are a lot of stairs and that can be a problem for old people or people with disabilities. All the major attractions of the place are not available by foot, you need to use a car. Among all the beautiful things you can find in Borgotufi, the most precious is surely the people who work there. We met Mary, a radiant lady who has accompanied us during our holidays. The restaurant is great and the breakfast buffet is quality.

Interesting hotel concept, with cosy detached houses, spread for the propriety, recently renovated, even with an internal fireplace. The main building has the restaurant and the spa, but the restaurant is the real gem of this nice hotel, with an amazing menu and a creative chef. Location is very nice, only 1/2 hour from the slopes of Roccaraso. This is definitely a place to come back and enjoy it!

Noi ci torneremo senz'altro!
