Being Christmas week we were in the area visiting friends so we just called in for a drink, not very festive but apart from it being Christmas, this was Saturday night in Cartmel I don't think there was a dozen people in there, the entertainment such as it was, was a guy on a guitar and between his enthusiasm and the stuff he was playing was sending folk to sleep. Talk about "Hotel California" Owned by a local micro brewery, so you have no idea what you are ordering and it's not cheap either. Will we be going back, I'll let you decide......!

Great food. Arrived for Sunday roast on the off chance that we could get a table. Cancellation! Excellent for us, bad luck to the people before. Roast was great, as was the pudding. Lovely atmosphere and really welcoming service from the staff.

Had the the Crag room which is a good size and overlooks the square Bed was comfy and tea and coffee were available However the bathroom door was not straight and couldn’t close it and unfortunately the hotels water tank seems to be above this room and is noisy when another room uses water Lastly not sure if it happens daily but they had a delivery of barrels at 7 in the morning right under our room which obviously woke us up

Avoid this place if you want a relaxing night away. Honestly I feel cheated that this has been sold as a hotel. It’s basically a pub with a couple of rooms rented out. Live music in the bar played till late which meant zero relaxation and terrible sleep. This place should be reported for false selling. Nowhere in the property description did I read I d sleeping in a room above a bar with loud music. And to top it off no TV s in the rooms - never came across this before. Absolute shambles and waste of money.

So welcoming. We called in the evening without having booked and were welcomed and advised we would need to wait about 15 minutes before we could make an order for food. Really, this is so not a long wait anyway and we were so welcomed. The bar tender and waitress were both first class. We didn’t wait long for food, we were always asked if we needed a top up. The food was good as well, chicken schnitzel and the fish and chips. We have been coming to Cartmel for many years and was so happy with this visit. Well done👍

We stayed in one of the rooms above the pub for 2 nights. The room was small but cozy and charming. The bathroom was spacious with a nice walk in shower. There is a steep flight of stairs to get to the rooms so that is something to be aware of if you have mobility issues, however I managed it fine with my bad knees. Most of the time the room was very quiet. One night there was live music in the pub and that was quite loud, but they stopped at 10:30 so it didn’t interrupt our sleep. A nice breakfast is provided at one of the coffee shops across the square. We really enjoyed our visit to Cartmel and loved the experience of staying above the pub.

Great beer garden and location.Tried the lager which was to be honest awful. Then tried the local cider, which had a very weird chemical taste.Has really put me off going for a night out.Could not pay on my phone for some unknown reason.Such a shame.Could be a little gem.SORT YOUR BEER OUT!
