Suitree Experience Hotel

Everything was excellent from the moment we walked in. The staff, food, people, drinks, the stay, and the amazing views! They have a DJ at the highest point that plays on weekends as well. Various staff who will let you know the must try spots and provide guidance on what to do/where to go. Will definitely go back!

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights at Suitree Experience Hotel. We reserved the Treetop Suite (suite #1). We didn’t realize that this suite does not have the sweeping views of many of the other suites. Our suite had the lowest elevation and was in the midst of trees rather than above the trees. Initially we were disappointed to not have the sweeping views. But since we are birdwatchers, we ended up being very pleased with our suite. In the early morning hours we saw lots of great birds from our balcony, especially when using the Merlin app to identify and call in birds. We saw turquoise-browed motmots, black-headed trogons, and a ferruginous pygmy owl, among others. We liked that we didn’t have to climb uphill and downhill as much to walk to the restaurant, although you can always call for golf cart transportation. We had easy access to the 3 stone pools, which we used daily in the afternoon to cool off. We also had more shade, which we appreciated. The suite was comfortable and very clean, It had decent AC, especially in the bedroom. We appreciated the mini fridge. Laundry was very reasonably-priced. The staff are all super friendly and professional. They are definitely invested in making sure your stay is a great one. We had breakfast and dinner daily in the restaurant. Our breakfast was included in our room rate. Breakfast was good but not lavish: coffee, juice, small bowl of fruit, and a main dish, such as eggs with toast or rice/beans with eggs. Dinner options were varied enough to keep us happy for 4 days. We liked the seafood dishes the most, and we thought a number of them were excellent, especially the daily specials. They serve you complimentary bread with an herb cheese spread, both of which were really delicious. We did not do any excursions as we had our own car. We drove into Sardinal one day for lunch and had an excellent and very authentic meal at La Casona. Don’t be put off by the exterior! It is a set meal (casado) wtih choice of meat and includes juice, soup, and rice pudding, all for about $12. We also drove over to Ortego (about an hour away) and did a boat tour on the Tempisque River with Palo Verde Boat Tours, which we enjoyed (go early). We saw lots of crocodiles, iguanas, herons, and a large troop of white-faced monkeys frolicking in the trees right by the water. We climbed up to the Mirador one evening and enjoyed the beautiful sunset while drinking a beer. Suitree is about 40 minutes from the Liberia airport, which makes it very convenient at the start or end of a trip. We really enjoyed our time at Suitree Experience Hotel!

The Suitree Experience is phenomenal. I accidentally stumbled onto this gem via Google Maps when planning routes and I am glad I did. These modern tree houses are amazing. The architecture and engineering boggles the mind. Each tree house can sleep 4 people. My kids (13 & 14) loved the bunk beds and the swings. The comfort is spot on. We stayed in the Quebracho (private hot tub) and the Ron Ron. The hot tub was clean and enjoyable. The Quebracho is more secluded from the main path, but you have to go down a flight of stairs and then back up to get into the treehouse. The Ron Ron is not as secluded, but honestly, the layout of the property and limited guests makes it feel like you are all alone. We enjoyed the main pool and hot tub. My kids even did their homework at the swim-up bar. The property is 20 minutes from Coco Beach. It’s really easy to get to town if needed. We booked a couple activities through Gabriela. A snorkeling tour and a massage. She had Paradise Spa come in and do the massages just below our Quebracho tree house on the open deck. The massage was great and relaxing, but the cool part was when the sun would pop out from the clouds and warm you up. Couple that with the birds talking through the forest, and it made for a memorable moment. Our snorkeling trip met some snags, but Gabriela came through amazingly. We booked a large catamaran through a company called Marlin del Rey. Unfortunately, they were not able to process our reservation in a timely manner. Gabriela and her partner Daniel stepped up and got us onto a private boat. This trip was waaaaaaay better. We went into the mangroves and snorkeled where the larger catamaran could not go. Just some amazing customer service. Speaking of customer service, Suitree has Johnny Madrigal. Wow…just wow. Johnny’s attention to our family was off the charts. It was like hanging out with your cool uncle. While the property has amazing architecture and amenities, Johnny is the lifeblood of the site. He helped us with our Spanish. He made cocktails and drink recommendations that perfect. But he treated our kids like they were his own. Suitree has a gem in him. This is probably the first hotel I have ever stayed at where I can see coming back.

I cannot rave enough about our experience at Suitree! From the time Daniel picked us up at the airport to the time Eric brought us back, our stay was unforgettable. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. The restaurant staff, Johnny and Brandon specifically, made our dining experience exceptional. They were friendly and knowledgeable and made sure we never left hungry! The chef even cooked the fish we had caught on a fishing tour one day and it was so good! Paolo and Eric at the front desk gave us a ride to a local market and Coco Beach so we could get some snacks and souvenirs... their kindness and patience was appreciated! Our suite was spacious, clean, and modern and provided beautiful views! The overall resort grounds were luscious and green, always kept clean and tidy! My husband and teens loved our private pool and the stone pools. I found the patio swings to be relaxing! The Bluetooth speaker and binoculars in the room were a huge hit also! The staff at Suitree made our first trip to Costa Rica an experience we'll never forget!! I can't say enough good things about this property. We can't wait to come back someday... hopefully soon!! I hesitate to write a review because I soooo want to keep this place a hidden secret, but this resort has earned the right to be praised from the (treehouse) rooftops! The most beautiful rooms and scenery welcome you after a (VERY) off the beaten path drive. The views and accomodations speak for themselves...but the thing that makes this place so special are the warm, personable, and kind employees. We arrived late afternoon and got ourselves situated in time to head up to the treehouse for evening drinks/cocktails set to the beat of an amazing DJ. 3 hours later as we were getting up from dinner, we were on a first name basis with every employee and as our kids got up from (our amazingly yummy) dinner, the service team hugged us goodnight. We are experienced travelers and our entire family has enjoyed hospitality from some of the best hotels in the US, Mexico, Caribbean and Europe. (Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, One & Only, COMO properties, etc). This GEM of a hotel has among the most kind and wonderful staff we have ever had the pleasure to meet. When we left, even our surly pre-teen kids couldn't believe how kindly they had been treated. If we were to be super picky, a larger pool area would be nice and yes...its SO quiet and remote that a full week there might seem long. But for a night or two to unplug...this place cannot be beaten. And with the quality and "cool factor" of the room plus a half-board option to cover breakfast and dinner, we actually felt this place was an exceptional value for the experience. They have plans to expand soon so I know the secret can't be kept much longer. From a discerning traveler.... I would say if you are considering this place.... DO IT. You will not regret your time in this serene place with the most exceptional staff. THANK YOU from our family to the Suitree Family. You were a highlight of our time in Costa Rica.

This is a beautifully unique experience in an amazing setting. There is a LOT to like about this place, but it does have one thing I feel is worth mentioning. The views, the monkeys, the staff are all amazing (Johnny)! But the food at the restaurant for my family and I was a major let down here. Taru gets good reviews, it’s beautiful and the staff is great but the food is just not good. I’m not sure if there was a change in the chefs or what? It’s a small place with few guests and the food arrives slowly and often cold which is inexcusable. Overall it’s great, but in our opinion the food could definitely use some help as it’s some of the worst we had on our stay.
