Selectum Family Resort Varadero

We spend my father's birthday in the hotel, with amazing Ocean view rooms. From the beginning a warm welcome. All the staff is very gentle and nice. We felt every moment as home. Everything is clean, the rooms, restaurants, pool, lobby, etc. An amazing pool and with the best staff at the pool bar. The dinner at the Sky restaurant was wonderful, a delicious lobster or solomillo. The buffet is very good and a diversity of offers. Thanks for a wonderful birthday and stay. We definitely are coming back soon.

Share some experiences of my recent stay at the new Selectum Family Resort Varadero Cuba for 7 nights. The Selectum is a new resort hotel with a modern and open concept design theme which is built next to the Caribbean Sea. The unique design style brings the “outside in and inside out” and natural light is invading the inside of the vast lobby, and the feeling of connection with the outside surrounding and nature is significantly reviewed. The hotel rooms are built around a courtyard with an open vault where sunlight and moonlight shine through giving a natural and tranquil tropical forest atmosphere. There are many hotel facilities such as huge swimming pools, pool bar, teens n kids activities room, spa and hair salon, gym, 24 hours snack bar, buffet restaurant, 4 gourmet restaurants and private access to the beach facing the Caribbean Sea. Nightly performances and entertainments options such as magic show are scheduled for the enjoyment of the hotel guests. Also the hotel guests are invited to join a fun night out at a marina club (free transportation, food and drinks are all provided) every week. Despite the limited resources, food shortages and other constraints, the hotel management and staff team are trying their best efforts to serve their guests and make them feel welcomed and enjoyable. Buffet meals The selection of food at the buffet tables (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are well planned to cater to international hotel guests’ taste and appetite and the food varieties are sufficiently prepared. Pancakes, beef, fish, chicken, pork chops and pasta omelette are freshly cooked in hot plates by chefs. Meals and most facilities are all inclusive. All staff serving at the buffet hours are very friendly and attentive like Raima, Lorena, Sudisaday. Guests are always welcomed into the restaurants by their happy smily faces and courtesy. The hospitality and staff attitude are one of the contributing factors to the success of a hotel. Hotel rooms The hotel room and the balcony’s spaciousness and general cleanliness are commended. Attentions are paid to the amenities provided like hair dryer, ironing board n iron, umbrella. However there is still some room for improvement such as detailed cleaning to appliances and floor, a provision of a kettle etc. , daily changing of fresh bath towels (however you can make a special request to Yoslaisys Mella, Nelysabel Contino , Gleidis Maceo at guest services, then your concerns or complaints will be solved). BTW these three well trained ladies are fantastic and friendly. They always attended to the guests with their lovely smiles and pairs of listening ears. Speciality Restaurants You need to make reservations through Gleidys (a nice lady at reservation desk) at the hotel’s four speciality restaurants: Skyblue (seafood), Oriental, Italian and Cuban. Food were mediocre and bland. Need a substantial improvement to the menu choices and meal tastefulness for these four restaurants. The first visit

Stayed for 2 weeks with my family. Hotel was good and the staff were friendly. The food was average and contained a lot of salt, but considering the food shortage in Cuba the hotel catering did well. The only complaint i have is with the Hola travel company, the Hola rep did not show up in the 2 weeks we were there, had to book excursions through a rival company. I would stay at this hotel again.
