Rooms were pristine with fresh linen. Water pressure was terrible in the showers. Wine tasting was average and almost feel rushed. Waiters took longer than usual and had to keep looking for them to order drinks and food. Wine selection is excellent but limited. Food was above par.

I planned a three night stay. Rijks' position is perfect, tranquil with beautiful mountain views. A lovely ecopool for guests to enjoy and warm and friendly staff. The food is of a good, maybe even above average, standard. I stayed at Reijks probably 10 years ago, and it was crisp, professional, and in great condition. Today, it's a shadow of its former self. I booked the honeymoon suit as that is all that was available. The rooms are looking a bit tired. The soap dish hanging off the wall, toilet seat when lifted is old and beginning to become "spongy." The farm has water problems, so the water is discoloured with an odour. The drains in the bathroom basins didn't pop up without some effort. The mirror frame in the separate toilet was cracked and pealing. The wall inside and below the air-conditioning was bubbling and flaky. It needs a painting, the bed was very comfortable, no complaints there. Then ones eye goes to the general state of the building, and the main building needs serious attention. Daily care and maintenance seem to not be the order of the day. Like Eskom, if you don't maintain your infrastructure, then it gets to a point where it becomes too expensive to keep up. So it's sad to see a beautiful farm looking somewhat tired. For the price one is paying, I would expect their old professional attention rather than a "Mom's and Pops" casual attention. I expect their facilities to be well kept. I found on a few occasions looking for staff to assist, wonderfully friendly when found, though. I would go back because of the position and tranquillity of the setting, decent food. We, despite the lack of attention to detail, had a wonderful stay

This was our third visit to Rijks, last year we booked the whlole hotel out to accomodate the guests for my daughters wedding . It is always lovely , the staff friendly and efficient but there never seems to be enough staff. During this stay , one of the head waitrons had to go to reception to do check outs in the middle of the breakfast servings . We were without water on and off the one day , would have been nice there had been a warning , but we were offered a complimentary breakfast as a gesture of goodwill. . Forgot to say there is a hairdryer in the room but no adaptor and a suggestion would be to have a kettle in the room as well as the coffee machine . All in all we had a lovely stay , a big shout out to Adelaide who was charming as always and super effecient.

Room was large and well appointed with lovely terrace . Do note that there are no wine tastings on Sundays, not even for guests - you have to delve deep into the website to ascertain this . We were immensely disappointed since this was planned as a special anniversary trip - their response was “you can buy some of our wine at dinner”. Fortunately we found Manley wine next door open and the owner, Marcus, gave us an excellent tasting session, full of stories and explanations and delicious wines - they had nice looking accommodation too! Dinner was good and breakfast lovely. The lack of personal response both by message and during our visit, rather tarnished the visit for us. It felt like a corporate event rather than a special occasion for us. The “eco pool” was quite unpleasant and slimy - personal choice inappropriate for this level of “quality” . Nice enough visit but not special .

This is our second visit to Rijks Hotel in 7 years. The standard of the rooms relative to to the price is not quite on par. Our unit was classified as a honeymoon suite and was spacious, but the fittings are dated and the unit would probably disappoint if actually booked for a honeymoon stay. The air conditioning units are dated and very noisy and they are a must in the hot summer months hence sleep quality was not good. The food is very good and the service is friendly. The estate seems to be orientated towards international travellers who may find the overall value reasonable. The water quality wasn't good and one morning there was no water at all. For an establishment of this type located on a export grade wine farm, I would have expected a water reservoir and filters to provide a clean reliable water supply.

We first experienced Rijk’s wines on our visit to South Africa in 2024, and have been drinking their wines in the UK ever since (the 2018 Reserve pinotage was so so good)..so we decided to stay on the estate during our 2025 holiday. So glad that we did. Rooms were lovely and enjoyable wine tasting and dinner made for a relaxing albeit short stay. Oh and the Governor’s Reserve 2016 is a triumph.
