I had high expectations for Rijk's Hotel, given its reputation and price point, but unfortunately, my stay was marred by a serious issue that was not adequately addressed. While the wine estate itself is breathtaking and the surroundings are beautiful, the experience was overshadowed by a persistent issue with the water supply. The water was severely discoloured and had an overpowering sewage smell throughout our entire 4-day (3-night) stay. This made basic tasks like showering and brushing teeth very unpleasant. Despite the obvious severity of the problem, the only action taken by the hotel was providing bottled drinking water upon request - no further compensation or even proactive communication was offered until the very last day upon check-out, which I found disappointing for a luxury establishment. Additionally, while some staff members were lovely, others were slow, disorganised, and at times unfriendly, which detracted from the experience further. It’s a shame, as the location and property have so much potential, but the lack of adequate service recovery and attention to guest experience left me feeling quite let down. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues to meet the standards expected at this price point.
