The hotel is in a small town, and it is very close to the town on foot.....The lower level is a bar and restaurant, but it is quiet, with a small river in front, the rooms are European and clean, and you can see the cathedral.... .The breakfast is very rich, I chose a full English breakfast...
Our hotel is nestled among shops and cafes, a five-minute walk from the iconic Canterbury Cathedral. Along the way, youโll cross High Street, lined with restaurants, bars, and historic sites. The Marlowe Theatre and Whitefriars shopping mall are each within a half-mile. Enjoy city centre views from our rooftop restaurant.

Hampton Canterbury is a very convenient hotel situated right in the city centre of Canterbury. Supermarket, restaurants and cathedral is literally 2-3 mins away. This is the 3rd time I stay here.
Breakfast is excellent. Although the menu does not change, it is a very reliable good old English breakfast serve in a buffet. It has everything you need to start your day. I love it and look forward to it every time. (Although you might get slightly bored if you stay for 5 days like me).
The environment is generally clean. I do not have a high requirements in the level of cleanliness. So donโt take my word for it.
It is not luxurious, but you will get everything you need to support you throughout your journey for leisure or for business.
On facilities side, there is no fridge in the room. Which is not a must. The room is medium in size. One down side is that there is no shower curtain. You will get a lot of water on to the bathroom floor when you shower. I suggest that they attach a shower holder on the glass side of the shower box. That way the water is directed towards the wall a lot less water will get on the floor. I will bring a suction type shower holder of my own next time. I will actually put it in my packing list. It would come in handy during travel. There is no coin op laundry in the hotel. And I donโt see any coin op laundry around the area. So you you need to use the hotel laundry service which will always be expensive.
Personally I think it is a great hotel. Great value for money and is my number 1 choice of hotel when I come to Canterbury. Thank you for looking after us.

The better place to compare the general facilities is that it is more convenient to travel in the city centre. It is also very convenient to get off the train station. The hotel is very poor. If you are unfortunate, your window is next to the street. There is a bar downstairs every night. Shouting
Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel has offered unique Kentish character to guests since 1927. Its Gothic style building dates back to the 1830s, and ensures all who visit return home with a few Canterbury tales of their own! Today, the hotel is ideal for those seeking the picturesque and the personality that Britain is famed for, with tasteful-yet-traditional refurbishment in recent years only adding to its appeal. Tranquil gardens mean theres as much peace and quiet to be found outside as there is within our 19th Century walls, and youll find all the comforts and amenities of a first class modern hotel at every turn. The hotel has free onsite parking and is just five minutes walk from the County Cricket Ground should you want to be bowled over by the tradition and intrigue of the Gentlemans Game. Enjoy your stay.

This hotel in Canterbury is highly recommended. The hotel should have a history of more than 100 years. It is a family business. The house looks ancient from the outside, but it has been renovated inside. The lobby is quite modern. We booked a king-size room, which was very large. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also large. The key point is that the hotel parking lot is free. If you drive to Canterbury, I highly recommend staying here. It takes about 20 minutes to park the car and walk to the center of Canterbury. Compared with international chains, we prefer these local hotels, which are less crowded, quieter, more comfortable, and more cost-effective.

The location of this accommodation ๏ฟผis perfect. Just 10-15 minutes walk from Canterbury West Train Station. There is a Sainsbury's local at the corner and the main street is just 2 minutes walk. The host is very nice and friendly. The room is clean, bed sheet and duvet smell good. For amenities, there are only hand wash and body wash, you have to bring your own stuffs. It's a good experience to stay in this accomodation.

First things first - it is now called the Thanington Hotel. Parking is limited - once you enter there is no room to turn round if it is full and getting in and out of spaces is tricky. We parked on the back roads opposite the hotel for most of our stay. 15 minutes walk to the main shops and cathedral with a few decent pubs on the way. We were in room 9, decent size room with plenty of storage space. It was a bit tight between the bed and the wall. Good bathroom with powerful shower. We had air-con in our room but we couldnโt keep it on as it dripped tons of condensation onto the floor - we half-filled the waste paper bin. We enjoyed the hot and cold buffet breakfast with the occasional wait while they topped up the servers. We tried the bar one evening but there was not much choice and the night manager didnโt have much of a clue on portion sizes. We loved the inner courtyard for a relaxed rest. Weโd definitely use again if we were in the area.

The appearance of this homestay has forgotten to take pictures. It should be found in other commenters. This homestay is very close to Canterbury West Station. We have two oversized boxes, so we took a taxi to the hotel after leaving the station. 3-4 minutes paid 6.6 pounds ๐.
The homestay is very good, the decoration is relatively new, the house is bright, and it is very clean. There are several staff and the service is better. We set a large room with breakfast. After we arrived, we were assigned a twin room with a large independent bathroom. The bed was about 1 meter wide, not wide, but the UK was like this. One thing worth mentioning: the time of the hotel check in here is generally after 3 pm, the time of check out is 10:30 the next morning, but we arrived at noon, went to the hotel early, the staff was also very enthusiastic to help us free the room, Still more humane. A very good stay experience, it is worth recommending to everyone.

Pros: The room is clean and cleaned up in a timely manner. The breakfast is good, and the steak in the restaurant on the first floor can be slightly expensive.
Cons: No elevator.
However, there are few old hotels in the UK with elevators.

LLaura-Jaynecomfortable clean room, lovely shower & toiletries, delicious continental breakfast selection, and absolutely delightful staff! stairs are a workout but other than that i'd literally live here if i could lol
I very recently returned from a further stay in the self-catering apartment. This may be my forth or even fifth visit - I'm starting to forget now. The apartment, as always, is extremely comfortable and a pleasure to stay in. Although it is an apartment, it doesn't feel like one. In my view, it is like staying in a detached property. There are no neighbours above or below and none adjoining on three sides. Even the fourth side has no direct neighbour. This is the entrance lobby to the apartment and not used by any other guest. The guest entrance is separate and across the way but it is extremely rare to hear any other guest. Everything in the apartment is of good quality and it has all you need for an enjoyable stay. The location is good too. Canterbury West train station is an easy walk away and the city itself has a lot to offer the visitor. From the bus and train stations, you can travel all over Kent and there are some great coastal and country walks available. I travel a lot and have a good amount of holidays now that I am retired and as a consequence, I stay in many hotels and guest houses. So far, the apartment at St Stephen's Guest House is far and away the best accommodation I have stayed in and it is always good to go back.
Had a very pleasant time staying here. The hotel is positioned within the walled grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. Views from the room were spectacular as it overlooked the Cathedral. The staff are warm and friendly and were very accommodating, always smiling and helpful. The room was very clean and modern and was equipped with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom clean and fresh with fluffy towels. Breakfast was also good and the was waitress service. Overall we would recommend this lovely hotel not only for the perfect location to be able to walk into the city centre and for a tour of the Cathedral but also because it is so quiet at night. We always sleep with our window slightly open and because they close the gates at night around the walked grounds we had 2 perfectly quiet nightโs sleep. Couldnโt be better and we will return in the future to this hotel without any hesitation.
Went in for the Pub Quiz on Sunday. Lovely atmosphere and good afternoon's entertainment. Bar selection was a bit limited and steep in price. Only a larger on draft, no ales on tap although the bottles were from local breweries, no soft drinks on tap only bottles so expensive for the little capacity. Food choices very limited only a couple of choices of crisps. Selection of gin was very good, and very much enjoyed! Will we be back to support the quiz? Of course but could not afford every week.
้ฑ้ฑThe environment is good, at first glance, there is the feeling of Downton Manor. The attitude of the younger brother at the front desk is good, there is no elevator, and the big box is a little hard. Booked the cheapest standard room, outdated facilities, sanitation. The restaurant environment is ok, the taste is very general, and there are fewer people eating dinner. Breakfast is a traditional English breakfast, waiting for a long time, feeling forgotten, the restaurant is a young waitress serving poorly. Breakfast tableware is not clean. Surrounded by golf courses, the environment is good, some residents around the leisure play, it is estimated that the consumption is not high.
GGuest UserFour of us stayed in two rooms here as we were visiting the Christmas Market. We found it perfectly situated for everywhere we wanted to go. The Manager was very friendly and helpful on arrival and the rooms were comfortable. The shower/ bathroom was clean and well maintained, if a little tight, but overall we enjoyed our stay. We had a lovely, well cooked breakfast, although, it was very busy and the poor waitress was run off her feet trying to cope with everything, we ended up having to find our own cups, saucers and cutlery from the sideboard, still, a minor inconvenience. So, all in all, a nice stay at a reasonable price. We shall be returning again. Thank you to all involved.
GGuest UserThe best thing about this hotel was the location - couldnโt fault it. Unfortunately, there were lots of aspects of the hotel that we felt just werenโt ok for somewhere charging these prices. The main issue was the staff, from the moment we arrived, it was clear that most were disinterested in their job. We were disappointed to find that the breakfast was continental only (not something made clear on ***********). We asked for toast, they asked what kind weโd like and we said white. When it didnโt come we asked again and they said there was no white. Which is fine, but the same happened the following morning too. The hairdryer didnโt work in our room. My partner went to reception for them to plug it in (it worked), and hand it back to him saying it was fine. We tried again in our room, it didnโt work in any of the sockets. He went back and overheard the manager saying โwhatโs he complaining for - it works!โ We were then advised to not โwave it aroundโ or โuse a brush to style with.โ The only way we could get it to work was if he held the plug into the wall while I used it.. and then it became incredibly hot after 30 seconds. I donโt understand the stand-off attitude and why we couldnโt be given a different hairdryer - it clearly was faulty and they knew it. The room we were in was large but with only one small window (and the smallest tv Iโve ever seen!) I echo what another reviewer says - in the night it was SO hot I couldnโt breathe. Awful ventilation. We also had a drippy tap and the bathroom door only shut when slammed. When we left, the staff were sat having breakfast and didnโt even come over to the reception to take the keys or ask how our stay had been. Overall I feel that this hotel was once probably lovely, however maybe the owners have stepped back a bit and the people they've left to run it just donโt really care. Itโs also very interesting how the hotel has no presence on this page - not even to acknowledge reviews, let alone reply. Says a lot!
