I booked 6 nights here in July. When browsing for the room type to book I decided I didn't want to stay in a Chambre Classique Duplex and paid more for a Balcony Room. When I arrived, which was almost 1am due to a flight delay, I found that I was in the room I paid more money not to be in—a Chambre Classique Duplex. The room is small, dated, and had a musty smell. It is not the modern rooms pictured, but what I am guessing are the older rooms. I went to the reception to explain I had been placed in a room that is of a lesser category than the one I paid for. The person at reception, who told me his name is ****, responded that the hotel was full, there was nothing he could do, he has already checked me in (with the implication that the job he was paid to do was done), and if I wanted to I could check in the morning and maybe I would get moved. While I truly believe that there was nothing he could have done at that moment in time, I find this attitude to be quite uncomfortable, especially as a woman travelling solo. I felt a fear that if something had happened to me, I am running the risk of them treating me in the same way. As it was 1am, I returned to my room. I spoke to trip.com, who are very helpful. I requested for the difference in the room I paid for, and was actually placed in, to be refunded, and for the rest of my stay to be refunded, as I find it uncomfortable to stay in a place like this and no longer wish to stay. They helped me to speak with the hotel and I received the same response—that there is nothing they can do right now. And so the next morning, I went back to reception to speak to them. They told me that the Chamber Classique Duplex I am placed in is one variety of the Balcony Room I booked. Note that I have no actual proof of this—only what they told me. They offered to move me to a different room and wanted to show me first, but a refund will not be possible because it is a non-refundable booking. At this point I had only had a few hours of sleep in the room, which I found very uncomfortable; the air conditioning didn’t seem circulate around the room. The hotel is marketed as a 4-star but there is no coffee or water in the room. I asked if it is possible for me to get a coffee and come back to them. Around this time, I was informed by my family that my grandmother could pass away at any time back home in Hong Kong, and I so needed to leave immediately. When I got back to the hotel I explained the situation; I said I will accept the explanation about the night I already stayed, and will not seek a refund in the difference, but I still would like to have a refund for the rest of the stay. I was met with the same response: it is a non-refundable booking. The lady at the desk, ***** (sp?) seems nice, but she offered the same answer over and over—it is a non-refundable booking. I can’t speak for what she was thinking or how she does her job, but the feeling I got was that people here don’t really care what you think, what your opinion is, or what is happening to you; they will smile and nod, but they don’t care. You as a guest just need to know the money you paid is the money you paid, and you will get whatever you are given. I left the hotel without a conclusion on the refund, raced back to Hong Kong a few hours later, and a day after I got home, my grandmother died. Trip.com kindly continued to liaise with them on the matter and it was the same answer: it is a non-refundable booking. I never did get a refund from the hotel. As I said, I believe in karma. But I hope that rushing home from abroad to be by a loved one’s side as they take their last breaths never happens to anyone who owns or works in this hotel.

Pros: Duplex room we booked was dated and not good so we were moved. The lady and man on check-in were great, the young man was also great with bar service etc. Walkable to the beach and shops, restaurants etc Pool area was nice (but loud with car noises as on a busy road) Negatives: Room we moved too was TINY. No door on the toilet which made privacy very hard Balcony was completely blocked so couldn’t see anything other than a wall Breakfast was not good so we skipped this and went to local patisserie Lady on check-out was quite defensive when I asked for a receipt to check for extra payments being asked. I just wanted a quick run through not an argument! Daily shampoo and body washes weren’t refilled once during our entire stay Entire hotel felt dated and uncared for

I had a negative experience at this hotel. I don't wish to leave this review with malice as I believe in karma—my intention is to share my experience with fellow travellers. I went to reception to explain I had been placed in a room that is of a lesser category than the one I paid for and asked to be moved to the room I paid for. The person at reception, who told me his name is Alan, responded that the hotel was full, there was nothing he could do, he has already checked me in (with the implication that the job he was paid to do was done), and if I wanted to, I could come back and ask in the morning—and then maybe I would get moved. While I truly believe that there was nothing he could have done at that moment in time, I find this attitude to be quite uncomfortable, especially as a woman travelling solo. Great staff, serious people trying to help you out the best they could. The place is just fantastic, that an old private hotel with a beautiful garden/pool. Everything is so authentic and real. The rooms are small but comfy, the bar is really beautiful. The hotel is very well located, few minutes walk from most restaurants/bars area, as well as few minutes walk from the beach. Thanks to the staff for their commitment and support. Definitely where I will be going next summer while visiting Cannes.

Stayed here with my husband in September 2023 and we loved it. Staff were very friendly, room was clean. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the nearest shops and cafes, and perhaps 10 minutes to walk to the front. Would definitely stay here again if we visited Cannes again. We checked out at 12 and left our bags for the day as our flight home wasn’t until 10pm. We even went back later in the afternoon and they let us sit by the pool for a bit before we left - very kind!! Tip: the breakfast is around 20€ per person. We didn’t experience it, but you can have lovely breakfasts in different cafes less than 10 min walk away for half that price!

We had balcony room (138) overlooking the pool. Hotels proximity to shopping, beach, restaurants and nightlife was excellent. Supermarkets and patisseries also very close by. Abundance of stuff all within short distance walking (no need for taxis). Really liked the swimming pool due to depth of 1.4 metre throughout which was very comfortable and the pool area was very nice, as it’s a small hotel there is no battling with other guest for sun loungers which we also loved. Staff we’re very welcoming and pleasant. The bathroom in our room needs a little maintenance (nothing major) and some snack availability at pool would definitely be an improvement for guests. Main road and rail line running adjacent to front of hotel, didn’t bother us at all. Room was well sound proofed at front but would say you can hear cleaners and internal noise a lot when in your room. If your a light sleeper that might be an issue for you in mornings. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant but that didn’t bother us as so many within close proximity. Overall we really liked the hotel and location and enjoyed our stay. We would come back again if staying in Cannes.

I was robbed at this hotel and they haven’t done nothing about it! The hotel manager said that he would contact the insurance to refund me but because I didn’t have a receipt for the item (that I bought three years ago!!) he couldn’t do nothing. If though he could see in the CCTV camera that I arrive at the hotel with my big and EXPENSIVE hat and after they changed the room the hat disappeared. A 50cm hat was stolen and they haven’t done nothing about it. I can’t imagine how easy must be to stole a jewellery or small item! NEVER AGAIN!!!

This hotel is gorgeous, it is a boutique hotel with a palatial feel. The gentlemen on the front desk were really welcoming on check in. We arrived early so we were just going to leave our luggage and go and explore Cannes. However we arrived at midday and our room was already ready. We were so happy. We had been awake since 3am that morning to catch our flight, so being able to relax, unpack and go out in our own time made a huge difference. The room is a nice size with a balcony and quite large bathroom. Shower is exceptional- really powerful. Safe and fridge good touches too. If you come to this hotel in the summer, make sure you visit the pool area. It’s amazing and has a mixture of shade and sunny places to lie out in. Pool is a lovely temperature and is not too shallow so one can swim easily. I wouldn’t think twice about coming here again. What a find, and we only booked it the night before we arrived! Thank you Golden Tulip Hotel, you will stay in our hearts.
