A perfect place for rest and relaxation. We are here at the moment. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and made up of a number of two storey buildings in the gardens. The gardens are beautiful but I bet even better in spring or early summer. We are B&B and the breakfast is fantastic plenty to choose from. We opted to eat in the restaurant on Madeira night and it cost £37.50 per person including wine. It was good food. The rooms are a little dated I prefer the term quaint. Some of the doors on furniture may not hang straight, the bath has seen better days (chipped enamel) but everything is clean and there are loads of draws and wardrobe space. Ours is an apartment with a kitchenette which has all you need. Nearby is a supermarket and a handful of bars but not many places to eat out if like us B&B. I would name staff who we have been good but the list would be too long. All staff seem to speak very good English and German some French too. The reception staff are incredibly informative and helpful.

Lovely resort with beautiful gardens, kind staff and comfortable rooms! We really enjoyed our stay. When we arrived we were immediately amazed by the beautiful gardens and pool. There is a wide variety of plants and flowers to enjoy and the plants, paths, pool, etc. are very well maintained. I read some reviews mentioning the rooms are quite dated, which I guess you could say is true, but this really is no problem in my opinion. The rooms are very neat and clean, you have everything you need and everything works! The only thing I could see being a problem is the fact the walls are quite thin. We had a neighbour who snored very loudly and there are some dogs in the area around the resort that will bark throughout the night, which did sometimes keep me up for a while. I must say however it's only a moderate amount of noise, light sleepers like myself might just want to bring some earplugs to be safe. We opted for a half pension stay with a breakfast and dinner buffet, which I was personally very satisfied with. Both buffets offer a wide variety of food options and though some of the food was more simple, there was always plenty of choices to enjoy for all of us. Next to the resort (only about a minute walk) is a supermarket where you can easily get anything else you need. We experienced the staff at Quinta Splendida as extremely kind, they are all very easygoing and happy to help you with anything you need. Overall a lovely resort that is well maintained and cares about their customers! I highly recommend!

My Mum and I came to stay at Quinta Spendida for her 80th birthday. We chose this hotel as we are keen gardeners and from reviews the garden sounded lovely. It didn't disappoint. Indeed, after seeing many of the gardens that Madeira has to offer, I would say it is amongst the best. Something interesting to see around each corner, including little kitchen gardens which were interesting. Even better than the gardens was the friendliness of the hotel staff. Thank you for helping make our stay so peaceful and enjoyable. Some reviews say the rooms are dated. We found them to be spacious and pretty. Yes not extremely modern, but then we would not like that. The cleaning staff did a wonderful job each day. We each had a studio room with a side sea view. We really appreciated the position of these rooms. We could see the gardens, the hills and the sea. I was especially fortunate to have a room on the corner which felt a bit more private and I would get up early to watch the sun rise over the islands. Our rooms were also further away from the restaurant and the evening entertainment, so lovely and quiet most of the time. The hotel is not in Funchal itself but there are plenty of local buses to get around. Cancico is a mix of holiday accomodation and locals so vistors are able to get a flavour of everyday life in Madeira. Something much more difficult if you are staying in 'hotel land' in Funchal. It felt like coming home each time we returned from a trip and several days we chose just to relax in the hotel grounds. The hotel is not close to the sea. You can walk to the sea in about 20-30 minutes, though, like most beaches in Madeira the local beach is not sand. The quinta has both an outdoor and indoor pool which is great, especially on the cooler days. From the outdoor pool you have the impression that the sea is just a hop, skip and a jump away. Visitors to the hotel seemed to be a mix of ages and this changed as the visitors changed. There were retirees, groups of friends in their 20s and honeymooners. We were not the only mother and daughter team. The atmosphere was very relaxed and you could dress up for dinner or simply be smart/casual. To sum up, we liked it so much, that after arriving we invited my sister to join us too!

Heaven-on-earth type of place, the gardens alone are able to wipe clean years of stress. You can hear the birds singing and the fresh air is filled with the perfume of flowers. Just heavenly! The resort is impeccably clean, with five-star amenities, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the view is incredible and the breakfast and dinner buffets are overwhelmingly abundant and absolutely delicious...the couple of pounds I gained were well worth it, I regret nothing! :) Definitely the go-to place in Madeira. I look forward to returning the first chance I get.

We arrived at the Hotel late evening. The room we booked was a studio with garden view. We were given a rm overlooking the side entrance to the restaurant which was noisy and not a garden in view from the balcony. Requested another rm but unable to change rooms until the nxt day. The rm we finally settled into was spacious clean and with a garden view. The terraced/balconys are not very private cannot have private conversations or sit outside as too close to neighboring rms. Gardens and breakfast were very nice. Close to a small village with restaurants to venture out too. Close to bus services into Funchal.

BEWARE: COCKROACH INFESTATION. We stayed in Quinta Splendida on 8-9 April in the suite (room 2024). Me and my girlfriend had a special occasion and we’re looking for a beautiful hotel with spa to end our long weekend trip. Arrival was OK, we had to carry our bags to ourselves to the room. Upon arrival in the suite, the window to the terrace had a crack in there. We enjoyed the complimentary prosecco but after that the experience went downhill quick. We went to the spa and upon arrival, there was a dead cockroach next to the Spa reception. This can always happen even if you try your best to minimize pest, so we didn’t bother too much and took a swim and went into the sauna. After, we went into the Turkish Steamroom and we’re horrified to find a huge cockroach of about 7 centimeters. We panicked and rushed out of the spa. The spa employees said it is Madeira and this can happen. Okay, we went back to our room and did a further inspection. It was horrible. Behind every surface we could see insect droppings/poop, on all the lights there were brown droppings and the minibar was removed from the original housing. Underneath were dead roaches so the hotel is aware of this problem. After inspecting the bathroom, we found a bunch of roaches near the stair to get into the bath. We called housekeeping and a cleaner came and sprayed anti mosquito spray. This caused the roaches to run around the bathroom and i had to smash them myself to prevent them to go everywhere. The showerhead is broken and slips down, the bathroom knob is damaged and keeps flushing, the drain doesn’t drain properly and there is plenty of fungus in the fridge and on the bottles. When speaking to the front desk, they we’re not understanding of how disgusting this experience was for us. We understand that insects are natural to a Botanical Garden but the staff is unwilling to adres this problem adequately. The hotel offered us a free lunch, which obviously we declined as we were concerned for hygiene. They couldn’t offer us anything else, even though we paid for Spa access equivalent to €90, which was a traumatic experience. After our discussion the lady proceeded to charge us the €4 city tax. This room is €350 a night and the hygiene is unacceptable. I have stayed in too many hotels in the past 10 years but never experienced such a abyssymal service. Seriously warning people to go stay somewhere else. Just visit the garden and sleep in a hygienic place for a peaceful night of sleep.

We stayed here for two nights when our flight out of Madeira was canceled. This was provided by our airline. To our surprise, this resort was a lovely location for our being “stuck” on the lovely island of Madeira for two days. The grounds are lush and beautiful. The pool and spa are excellent. Notwithstanding, the staff are very friendly. Immanuel and Lucy went above and beyond for us. The rooms were acceptable, but we missed some of the amenities we enjoy in boutique hotels- shampoo and water provided, etc. However, It was a pleasant stay and we would come back to enjoy this resort.

This was our 5th visit to Madeira and our first stay at this beautiful hotel . We were very lucky with the weather in early March and spent all week relaxing by the pool. It is peaceful and the setting is stunning. The staff were friendly and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. We had a studio quite near to the bar but were not troubled by any noise. We were half board and really enjoyed the food. My husband has to avoid gluten and there was enough choice for him, but the dishes were not as well labelled as in the usual chain hotels where we have stayed in Funchal previously. Deserts homemade and tasty. Huge salad bar with sushi special. Staff were very helpful. We went to the bar a few times and had cocktails and enjoyed the entertainment. We also used the indoor pool which is free for guests. We paid to use the spa area after 5pm one evening and spent a couple of hours in the jacuzzi, steam room etc. Treatments in spa are expensive. We ate lunch at the pool bar a few times, it was expensive but the portions were large so you could maybe share a dish. The grounds are absolutely stunning with fabulous planting and gorgeous flowers. The only sound was birdsong from island canaries and blackbirds. It was so relaxing that we barely left the grounds all week, sunbeds very comfy and pool towels provided and pool area very clean and well maintained . There is a library room where you can swap books. You do have to pay for the safe. There is a supermarket nearby and a lovely bakery cafe. It is very steep if you venture out so not good for anyone who struggles with hills. My review is 4 rather than 5 stars because this hotel is more rustic and traditional than other places I have stayed but I do recommend this gorgeous hotel for garden lovers in particular
