The MAYA CARIBE and DOS PLAYAS hotels cost the same, and I chose the first one specifically to live closer to the sea and to be guaranteed a room with a balcony. Yes, MAYA CARIBE hasn’t seen renovations for a long time, yes, everything in the rooms was pretty shabby, yes, it felt like you were living in a cave, in an authentic way. But... what a view, what a big balcony and the main sea, sleeping to the sound of the waves is a special kind of thrill. I think the price-quality ratio is excellent. A hotel on a spit, its own access to the sea, and at the same time all inclusive. I was very pleased with the choice. The room is bright, spacious, and incredibly simple. The bed is huge, comfortable, the pillows suck, lumpy, I had to sleep without them. There is one mirror, small, there is a hairdryer and thank God. The safe is free, there are enough hangers in the closet. The tiles in the bathroom need a good cleaning; the shower head sticks out of the wall and splashes water haphazardly, with all its might. The refrigerator is good, one of the few not ancient things here. There is no sound insulation at all, you can especially hear what is going on in the corridor, because you can stick your palm into the gap between the door and the cash register. There are strange long shelves on two concrete walls. In general, it is ascetic, but not critical, and a lot can be forgiven for the view from the room. The area is beautiful, green, everything is well maintained, pleasing to the eye. Iguanas and peacocks add exoticism. The food is fine too. The latest reviews were upsetting, they wrote that the food was bad. But no, it’s delicious, I especially liked the breakfasts at the main restaurant “Iguanas” and lunches at “Cielito Lindo” on the beach, right next to our building. Not bad, by the way, you can eat rolls in a Thai restaurant for the sake of variety. And yes, you help yourself at the buffet, which I consider a plus, even though it’s supposedly not hygienic and blah blah blah. Alcohol is also okay, red wine, champagne and beer are excellent. I don’t drink cocktails or strong alcohol, and I won’t talk about them. The only thing that disappointed was the New Year's dinner, which was impossible to refuse (it was included in the price of the tour and cost a lot). Jamon was added to the daily menu, and half a glass of champagne was poured out to everyone 10 minutes before midnight. There is no program at all, and it is designed more for Spanish speakers. The staff is quite efficient for Mexico and friendly. There are no complaints about Wi-Fi at all, it worked stably, the speed was normal. Well, a few words not about the hotel. Dollars are not accepted everywhere, it is better to exchange for pesos. The exchanger is on the right when exiting the hotel, and there is also a pharmacy there. Prices for excursions from tour operators and third-party organizations are almost the same, but I can’t compare the quality, since I ordered them back in Russia. I highly recommend Chichen Itza, Pink Lakes and Xel-ha Park. You can buy an adapter locally, in Chedraui, for example, but it’s more convenient to bring your own. The weather in December-January is not stable, at night and in the morning it is cool up to +15. Women need a license to ride golf carts on the island. Buses R1, R2 run along the spit and to the city of Cancun incredibly often. Coco Bongo, in my opinion, is overrated, but go for show
