I think the Trip advisor reviews have got mixed up between people reviewing the restaurant and the guest house/B&B experiences; our review is for a 3 night stay, which was part of our touring holiday of Scotland. On arrival we couldn't help but notice what seemed to be a Christmas decoration (with fir cones/snow/lights) surrounding the door. I do like the idea of using outdoor lights all year round but i did question the choice of decoration. I wouldn't want readers to think the Abbotsford is bad, as it isn't - but I would question its 4 star rating and price point. It felt to us more 3 star. Our room was ok, some of the furnishings were a bit mismatched - the bathroom quite small compared to other places we stayed on our trip. The beds were comfy and we slept well. Daily room servicing is only upon request, thats fine but it would have helped to have been told this when we checked in. Interesting too, that this was the only place we stayed on our trip (13 different accommodations) that asked to debit our card with the cost of our stay within 2 minutes of us crossing the threshold. Breakfast was ok - a nice selection of cooked choices (£5 extra)- although the continental choices were a bit sparse. There seem to be only one person on duty at breakfast front of house - doing everything, so there were a few waits whilst coffee was topped up, orders taken etc. The final morning of our stay there was no orange juice which is surely a breakfast staple. So in summary, not bad, but could be better for the star rating and the price charged.
