My wife and I stayed at the Ariel Chico resort for a short 4 night break. We booked the hotel at very short notice after reading the reviews about the hotel and local area on Tripadvisor. Like everywhere, the hotel had its good point and bad points. Firstly the room and hotel. We stayed in a studio room which was an adequate size for 2 people and had the basic of what we needed in there, such as a fridge and kettle. There was very little in the way of cutlery and pots and pans, but we were all inclusive, so this didn’t matter to us. The rooms are tired with a few cracks in the walls and tiles, but again, nothing to worry about. The beds were extremely hard with very little give. The food. The all inclusive was above basic but always plentiful and there was always something there for both of us. The breakfast was what you would expect, continental, fruit, pastries, European attempt at a full English (with streaky style bacon and European sausages), which was all very tasty. The lunch had about 8-10 hot choices, including cooked to order hot plate. A full salad was available every lunch time and again nothing too negative to point out. Dinner was a version of lunch, but on steroids! Lots of choices of main courses and everyday we enjoyed our dinner. There are also lots of deserts at dinner, so plenty to keep everyone happy. The pool area was clean and seamed very safe, with a lifeguard on duty throughout the day. There seemed to be plenty of sun loungers, but this was low season and the hotel wasn’t very busy. The bar near the pool serves soft drinks and alcohol from 10am until 11pm. There is also a small snack bar at the bar, but we only tried it once and the food was cold, not even lukewarm but cold. The staff were approachable and helpful throughout the hotel. The daytime entertainment was obviously aimed at children, so we didn’t see much of this. The evening entertainment was dire! It was without doubt the worst hotel entertainment I have ever witnessed. It was early season and they are not in full flow yet, but they seemed void of ideas of how to get the audience (guests) involved. The ladies seemed enthusiastic but the 2 men were bordering on child like, making stupid noises and being irritating to try and get a laugh. The local area is very nice, with the main square a 5-10 minute walk, where there are lots of restaurants and eateries. The highlight for us was Dougan’s Irish bar, that has live music on every night from 10-12 o’clock. Well worth a visit. Overall summary: hotel is a little tired, but not overly so to put you off. Food was good and plentiful, with enough choices to find something for everyone. The absolute let down was the entertainment. Would we come back? No, solely because of the entertainment.
