We wasn’t impressed with Plas Dolgugog at all, there wasn’t anyone to greet us on arrival, details was left by the main entrance in a envelope. The room was qwerky to say the least, breakfast was much to be desired, although the full English breakfast on the last day was nice, the tv wasn’t working properly in the room and no WiFi signal, the phone numbers that was left was unavailable when we called it. I booked a double room but had a room with 2 single beds, which was comfortable.

It was pretty obvious on arrival that something was off about this Hotel. The approach to the hotel is by way of single track road, the first thing we noticed was the “For Sale” sign! Although we were unsure whether it referred to the hotel. The garden either side of the drive is lovely as is the first impression of the hotel. There is plenty of parking, (the parking spaces are for “ customer parking” they should surely be “guest parking”, it’s an hotel not a shop.) I know that’s a bit picky! The hotel entrance is closed, there is a bag with some envelopes at the side of the door one with my name on it. The instructions inside give me a code for the entrance door, also the code to obtain our bedroom key from the key safe outside the bedroom door. We were expecting a large double bed but there were two singles, apart from that we liked the room although it was a little cramped. There was a north facing balcony with two nice chairs and a table, the roof of the orangery partially obscured the view but is was a pleasant enough balcony. Returning from dinner there was still no staff at the hotel! We had to order breakfast on a breakfast menu by 9pm and leave it outside the bedroom door, the menu was lovely offering some lovely cooked options as well as a good choice of cereals etc. At breakfast we met a member of the hotel staff, he asked what room were in (no good morning) he returned a few minutes later to ask us what room we were in again! He then served me the worst cooked breakfast I have ever been served and although I left most of it I was not asked what was the problem (although that was blatantly obvious) or offered anything else. The following day a young lady served breakfast and did her best, unfortunately the food was no better and they ran out of jam. A fellow guest asked to see the owner but was told they were too busy, in truth the business is insolvent and is being run exceptionally badly by the administrators. A great shame.

While it’s very nice location, with quiet, comfortable room, when we arrived we were told that they had lost our room key. They gave us the master but once in the room we realised that it did not have a key for the door on to the common veranda and we had no way to lock this door. We contacted the staff (it’s all remote management) and were told they don’t have a spare and that we shouldnt worry as it very safe. While I get the risk is low, with our passports, computers etc, this to us was an unacceptable risk but we were given no different options. Next day we left the key in the designated place but upon our return our room hadn’t been serviced. Given the price we paid we felt that this was a real failure

We recently stayed at Plas Dolguog for three nights whilst celebrating our silver anniversary. As many have commented before, this is a charming property in beautiful surroundings. It did indeed serve well as a base to explore this lovely region of the country. On the plus side, The room was well appointed and of expected size. The bathroom was of good quality, performance and was clean and modern. The terrace is a nice space to enjoy some peace over looking the countryside. Parking was ample. Pre- visit communication regarding self check in was given. Further details are picked up at the property on arrival. The not so good, The property runs a hands off approach where any problems during the stay need to be reported by telephone. This is not so good especially for small matters and delays any response with dealing with most things. We arrived to find an active wasp nest immediately outside our terrace door, subsequently losing an afternoons use of the space. We reported it and to the credit of the owners the promised action took place the next day. However it had clearly been there some time and should have been picked on by staff. Further issues we found were, no replenishment of toilet roll at the prescribed place. The Tv remote was out of batteries so was unusable. The bed in our suite was of poor quality and displayed signs of wear. Breakfast was indeed tasty however on day 1 the staff were late and on the last day they didn't even show up ! A continental option was provided and note to apologise and promise of a refund. However nothing was received. All these matters really need addressing by the owners to justify value for the money charged. We decided to rate our stay here as 3 out of 5

We stayed here for my birthday and I cannot fault this place at all!!! The rooms are themed based on famous operas and the landlady also gives opera lessons which was so so delightful to listen to from our balcony - as avid planespotters, we also had the privilege of watching low flying RAF aircraft over the back of the property which again we could view from our balcony - breakfast - breakfast options were great all home cooked and my god delicious - I had preordered the Glamorgan sausage and they specially went out to purchase ingredients to make it and then served us some whopping veggie Glamorgan sausages which were DELICIOUS! Complete with birthday candle and champagne - I swear this place is an absolute gem and we 100% will be going back! Thank you so much for such a lovely birthday weekend

A nice place to stay, but slightly irritated by the fact that after a long day out walking we came here for one night only to find the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were all completely empty in the bathroom. That, and because we arrived after 9pm, we missed getting a breakfast order in which we’d had no mention of, even though we’d informed them we would arrive around 10pm
