Chantry Hotel

Highly recommended – just spent a splendid four-day visit to this excellent family-run hotel. Tastefully furnished to fit its historic surroundings, the Chantry rates high our list of places to stay. Excellent breakfasts, too. Ideally placed for the cathedral and town centre.

I stayed a couple of times over the last few weeks while working at the brewery. Good location free parking. It’s an old building but solid so rooms are pretty quiet and clean and quipped well. There is a small lounge area where you can get a alcoholic drink or just chill out and they serve a proper breakfast which was spot on

We regularly stay at this central, quiet little hotel. It is excellently run and maintained. It is an old coaching inn, but totally renovated to a high standard, and offering secure free parking, a 5 minute walk from the centre of this wonderful old town, and just round the corner from the little gem of Theatre Royal.

I recently spent three days in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I stayed at the Chantry Hotel which I booked on their website. On arrival I was allocated to an annex next to the hotel and was shown to a first floor "Superior" room for which I had paid £497 for three nights. As I am elderly I had requested a ground floor room (!) The room was quite small with a double bed. The bathroom was minute - with barely enough room to sit down (!) The building was a conversion with boarded walls which meant that l could hear "everything" from the other rooms. Obviously not a hotel for "affectionate" couples (!) Drunks stumbled up the narrow staircase. Doors slammed, toilets flushed, sleepers snored, people swore. Breakfast time during weekdays was at 7:30 to 9:00am - rather early for those on holiday. The dining room staff were very pleasant and the food at breakfast was good and plentiful. 2.98

Very pleasant one night stay in this historic building. Everything was just right in a traditional and tasteful sense. Nothing to fault, so nice to stay at a very good independent hotel. Located conveniently close to the town centre but without the crowds. Great attention to detail from the staff, lovely drawing room and minimalist but tasteful decor in our large room.

What a little gem! 4 of us stayed overnight following an Elvis concert in Bury St Edmunds cathedral. The rooms were clean and comfortable with everything we would expect in a hotel room. Our bed was super comfortable, pillows fabulous! Car park onsite and easy walking distance of everything. Breakfast is ordered and bought to table and delicious. Will stay again. Thank you hosts! 🙂

Just back from a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. The team were very welcoming and we were allocated a lovely room on the top floor. Very comfortable bed, lots of storage, very well equipped walk in shower. Wonderful breakfasts, probably the best we have had. Excellent location - a very pleasant 5 minute walk to Angel Hill. The Chantry also has a car park. We will most definitely book again next time we are in the wonderful town of Bury St Eds.

Great applause to the location of the hotel and its private car parking spaces. For a visitor to Bury St Edmunds absolutely ideal for proximity to the St Edmundsbury Cathedral. the Abbey Gardens, the Theatre Royal and the Town Centres shops and Apex Theatre all easily within walking distance. The first floor standard room was occupied, although smallish, was nevertheless perfectly presented, with the view on to the one way street below (very quiet at the weekend), a really comfortable bed, and excellent hot water shower (no bath) The full English breakfast in the immaculately laid out ground floor room was superbly cooked and supplemented with usual cereal , yoghurts fruit juices and tea and coffee. Shiny crockery on white table cloths count for so much. Go to Bury and stay at the Chantry

Excellent hotel in every respect. Lovely friendly staff. Gave us a map of BSE and explained where attractions were located. Our room was upgraded as it was my birthday, a lovely thought. The room was spacious, extremely clean and bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, lots of choice and of a very high standard. Plenty of parking and very central. We could not fault the hotel. We would definitely recommend it.
