We really love visiting this ancient pub in Bury town centre. The very last Abbott lived here after fleeing Henry VIII’s dissolution of the nearby abbey, and you can feel the history. Today it’s lively and friendly, and a great place to spend, ahem… a few hours…. There’s very decent beer (the Abbott Ale, brewed literally a few metres away, is always fresh) and a pub grub menu that while not especially imaginative, has a range of very eatable dishes , reliably prepared and well presented, and all of which are good quality. In summer, it’s an especial delight to eat and drink in the charming hop garden at the back, which has rain shelters and outdoor heaters for when the weather is less good. We’ve also stayed overnight here in the past btw, and the accommodation is first class.

I had won an overnight stay with breakfast in a raffle and although I live in bury st Edmunds I always wanted to stay here. Very friendly on arrival. Had lovely double room at the top. Was decorative throughout very in keeping with style of pub. Bed so comfy as were pillows. Also there were two cans of ale complimentary in the room and I love my ales. Bathroom was beautiful with its fixtures and fittings. Enjoyed a main meal on the Sunday always good food as being local have eaten here before. Got up to a continental breakfast Buffett and ordered a full English. Looked amazing and was lovely. Would definitely recommend. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would say is because it is a pub it can be a little loud if you are wanting and early night. This didn’t affect us but I know some people it will. The food in the pub was very tasty too.

Lovely pub / hotel - modern yet characteristics. The lovely old barrel in the floor in the room was a nice touch. Small but nice bathroom, large waterfall shower. Bed was large & comfy. The bottle of beers was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious. Stayed for business but would definitely stay again.

Booked this hotel due to it being near the town centre and having its own carpark. Unfortunately there are about 8 spaces at the back of the hotel, so if you arrive on a busy Saturday afternoon be prepared to drive around looking for a car park with a space. Luckily on our 3rd time around the block a space became available in the pub car park, albeit a very narrow space. We were able to check in early and were greeted by Adam who explained all the hotel details to us. Rooms are at the side of the hotel, we had room number 1 which was located on the ground floor facing the rear garden area. The room was quite dark but as we weren't in there for too long it didn't bother us. There is a kettle and coffee machine, iron and ironing board, fan and hairdryer. Toiletries are also provided in the bathroom. 2 tins of IPA were also left for us to try, very nice touch. A few tea bags and coffee sachets are provided but definitely not enough milk. Also would have been nice to have some hot chocolate. There is a heated floor in the bathroom which was nice first thing in the morning but the heated towel rail didn't seem to work. The pub is extremely busy so I would advise booking a table early if you want to eat there. We didn't but the food that we saw looked very nice. The town centre is a 5 min stroll so we were away from the noise but near enough to venture out. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs in the area along with a good shopping centre. Breakfast was fantastic, plenty of options including healthy choices for those that need to watch their diet. Check out was a bit slower, there were no staff members around which I find strange considering it was check out time. It took one of the staff's children to find someone for me. All in all a good stay and we will return.

The room was clean and comfortable. The food was great. The staff friendly. It’s right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds, close to the cathedral. Abbey grounds, shopping and lots of restaurants.

After a 3hr journey booked in, the Room was small & dark, feel it needs rearranging to maximise the space, bathroom towel rail wasnt working, reported it but wasnt fixed before we left, hopefully it will be done. eat in the restaurant the first night, Milly our waitress was brilliant, her customer service skills are amazing, shes professional in every way. Shes an asset to greene king. The food was great, breakfast was good for the price,

The hotel rooms are stunning. Everything you could hope for and exceptionally clean, and great value for money. Jack checked me in whilst Millie assisted by making great conversation. The whole check in process was simple and comfortable, and your staff members are the absolute credit to the smooth process
