Stopped at the Sands Hotel for lunch and I would definitely recommend it for lunch. Lovely clean restaurant and spotless toilets. Excellent food. We had the Chicken Curry and the Scampi - both excellent. Will definitely be back next time we are in Orkney.

Went for my 50th with my husband for a 2 day stay. Have had a couple of mini breaks here this year and we just love it. Food delicious, comfortable and very clean rooms and staff are fantastic. Special shout put to Cathy, Allanah and Andy. Thank you for the perfect stay. We will be back. Highly recommend if you want to stay at a quiet location in the South Isles of Orkney.

We spent 3 nights in this lovely hotel. The bedroom was lovely - clean with a good bathroom with bath and shower. Great view over looking the jetty and water. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The hotel serves a good a la carte menu and a bar menu. Lots of choice and the food was excellent - freshly cooked and delicious. It was supported by a reasonably priced wine list. Breakfast was good with lots of choice - especially good were the kippers. The staff were brilliant - very friendly and efficient and nothing seemed too much trouble. Great service. I can really recommend this hotel and I am looking forward to returning!

The Sands was a great place to base my week of travels in Orkney Islands. My room was comfy, the meals were excellent, and the staff was so supportive with suggestions for what to do. There is a small beach within walking distance where shells was up with every tide.

We didn’t stay but stopped off for lunch on our way down the Islands via the causeway. On a very unscientific survey of 2 and based on many plates of fish and chips eaten while on our road trip, theirs was the best! Super fresh, piping hot and a large serving. The chips were crispy and freshly cut. Absolutely delicious! Washed down with a pint of the local ale. The restaurant is set overlooking a beautiful bay and the service was lovely. Well worth the trip when you are next in Orkney mainland.

This is a good 3 star hotel. It’s spotlessly clean. The rooms are built into the room gables so I must have hit my head five times getting in and out of bed. Food was good pub fare - I had the curry and it was delicious. It’s a very expensive hotel for what is offered, and probably over priced. One night cost £250/$au500 including breakfast. Plus an extra charge for a breakfast cappuccino, which I thought was a bit grasping. The staff was very friendly and helpful,

We popped in for lunch whilst driving down to Hoxa, very lovely in the bar area and we had delicious soup and a lovely toastie. I then spotted all the local gins behind the bar and the very friendly member of staff took time to talk me through them all and where they were from.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Sands Hotel! We stayed in the Scapa room. It is extremely spacious as it has a living room/kitchen area and the beds are on the upper level. It's perfect for a family of four. The kitchen and refrigerator allow you to make your own meals if you would like. The breakfasts are outstanding too. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and informative. There is ample parking behind the hotel and our room had a very nice view of the bay. All in all, this is a wonderful place to use as your base to explore the Orkney Islands1
