There are many structures in Italy that date back to 1100 and earlier. Some have been well restored and repurposed for the comfort of travellers who want to be surrounded by beauty, enriched with culture and treated like royalty. This is one of those properties. None of this could be possible without people: Helena, the architect of the project, her gracious husband and partner Eduardo and Laura, Eduardo's mother, a sommelier, great host and keeper of recipes I am trying to acquire. I registered for three days, stayed for five and left because I had other commitments. Location is ideal for the Brunello experience in Montalcino, the Pecorino cheese phenomenon of Pieza (look for the shop jammed with eager customers), the compelling hill town of Montepulciano and numerous other Tuscany villages, restaurants and lovely folks. Terrific value, very comfortable and well appointed interior design. The villa is in the beautiful hills just outside the pleasant town of Buonconvento.

Structure in the historic centre of Pienza, from an old monastery, service and top-top reception, should only be equipped with some rooms with a 4-star accessory (kit courtesy, But for the rest, it is a nice place. The swimming pool with a wonderful view, a restaurant with customer service and care at the highest levels (good to all the boys and the owner) even if used for a dish, a fantastic breakfast with so many local products. We stayed here for three nights whilst on a fly drive holiday to Tuscany. The hotel is very modern and for us was definitely not a traditional Tuscan place. The main problem is that the bedrooms are just too small, fine if you are staying one night on a business trip but hopeless if you are staying more nights. When we arrived there were two coat hangers in the wardrobe although this was quickly rectified. The cupboards consist of an IKEA hangar in the wardrobe. To be fair the hotel did offer an upgrade at a cost on check in but we declined as the small suite smelt of cigarette smoke. The air conditioning is bizarre as you have to request reception to activate it for you and adjust the temperature - the room controller doesn’t do anything, it took us 2 days to realise. The staff are all very good and friendly. The evening meals are very good, traditional Tuscan albeit in a modern room. Breakfast only average and served in the basement room with so many people and hard surfaces it was very noisy. Reasonably well located for Chianti, Sienna and the villages to the south. It is a bit isolated and if you want to eat out at a restaurant you will have to drive.

I instigated this trip to Tuscany with my mom because she’s never been, and to the Rosewood specifically because I’ve always enjoyed my stays in London. And Castiglion del Bosco didn’t disappoint, in the slightest. The staff was so unbelievably kind and thoughtful… even when we had a slight issue with our beautiful room, they were so attentive and proactively upgraded us so we were comfortable and happy. Their attention to detail leaves you feeling completely taken care of. And the resort is exactly what you come for. The guest relations, housekeeping, spa, and winery staff were so lovely, my mom was on cloud 9! Can’t wait to come back. Thank you!

We booked a week in this facility. What to say ... was all spectacular! The beautiful, wide room (although it would need a new renovated) and above all very clean. Breakfast really good: wonderful cakes, different mornings, salty cakes, sauces and cheese with hot bread, pancakes ( sofas, which my husband loved). The small but very beautiful pool, we used it some afternoon to look for a little cold. The pool fabrics are provided by the facility. Very comfortable and available staff: we felt really cockooted (especially a couple of Campania staff boys with whom we often stopped talking, and who sometimes advised us). All really very nice, it's a pity that the holiday is over ... Compliments for this nice reality, made especially by young people, and we hope to come back soon!

Hotel dei Capitani is situated on the edge of Montalcino (only a 5 min walk from the centre) with spectacular views of the valley below. Rooms are quite small but provide wonderful views, a comfy bed and a well equipped bathroom. A good selection of cereals, pastries, etc were provided for breakfast on the terrace overlooking miles of Brunello vineyards below. There are some excellent restaurants in Montalcino so we didn't have dinner in the restaurant.
