Hotel Fagus by Aycon

Hotel would suit some but not for us; did not match the advertising that we booked it based upon. The key bits in the advertising were - Boutique hotel with 26 bedrooms - Adults only swimming pool - Sun loungers around the pool to relax - Close to beach and town centre What we found were - Double the number of bedrooms half in a separate block. This meant we had a ground floor room we would have requested not to have if we had known it was an option. Further more the second block, whilst having a swipe access to as permanently open meaning anyone could access straight up to your room door. They also could access without going through the main building. Double the number of rooms without an expansion of the breakfast area meant it felt like a youth hostel at breakfast rather than a 4* boutique. Breakfast food choices also strange as per other reviews. - Swimming pool not adults only and poorly reinforced no glasses in the pool. - No sunloungers - all upright chairs not relaxing. - Good location - this was the best thing about the hotel. Other things to be aware of: - Passive aggressive signs about your own food and drink in rooms when the bar was rarely open to buy your own - King size bed is too singles badly put together so I fell down the middle more than once -

Lovely hotel which is nicely situated in Budva. The beach was around 5 minutes walk from the hotel and the old town less than 10 minutes away. There are nice bars and a large shopping centre nearby. The hotel itself is new. Modern and very clean. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast offering is small but sufficient with salad, cold meats and cheese. There is a warm offer available, although not a ‘full English’, with hot dogs, chicken wings, calamari and potato wedges on offer. The fried eggs were really good quality though The hotel has a rooftop pool but not somewhere you would sit beside for the day to sunbathe. We had a look but didn’t use it. All in all, a nice clean modern hotel in an excellent location for seeing all that Budva and the surrounding area has to offer.

Standard hotel below average. Good central location, nice clean rooms, well-functioning air conditioning. There is a pool on the roof, which you often have to yourself, which is good, as the space is tight. The breakfast, served between 7-10, is almost inedible. Boring white, dry bread, watery scrambled eggs, tasteless cheese and sausage. One day the owner came, took sandwich cake with his fingers, and then ****** his fingers clean. Very unhygienic. the juice is concentrate from a vending machine, the coffee is lousy. There is no fresh fruit nor any variety in the buffet. it's the same every single day. It is only possible to get one key card for the rooms and there are often no pool towels. The staff seem grumpy and not service minded. The owner is a grumpy man who scolds the customers. He should stay far away from the guests as he has a really bad attitude. You are not allowed to take drinks into the room, but if you ask for a beer at 3pm, you will be told it is too early. I cannot recommend the hotel and can't understand where the 4 stars come from?

There are definitely positives to this hotel but with just a little effort it could be better, especially given it is billed as a four star hotel. There are real positives, as others have said the location is great as it's close to the Old Town, beaches and sea front promenade. It was spotlessly clean and the rooms were well appointed. The staff were mixed, some really friendly while others were less so. The hotel felt like a business hotel serving a tourist resort, the rook top pool was ok but there was very little room to sit there and relax, you could just about fit 6 chairs around the outside and that would be it. We found the Wifi access to be intermittent and this affected access to the TV: we are not major TV watchers when on holiday but it would have been nice to catch up on news/sport without the set constantly turning off! There is no real bar area in the hotel so nowhere just to sit and relax which is something we missed. Finally, we found the breakfast really disappointing: it may have been ok for others but compared to experiences elsewhere it was a real let down. I appreciate you have to be prepared to go with the local offerings and culture, but I can't say I found fishfingers, Calamari, chicken wings and hard boiled eggs covered in a curry sauce appealing in the morning. There was very little fruit on offer and a limited range of cereals. You wouldn't starve, but was it really that good for a four star hotel. We had a great holiday in a beautiful country, but given that there is so much development going on in Budva, I think the Fagus needs to improve
