B&B the Butchers Wife

Bruges|0.07km from Cook & Serve
I'm disappointed to write this review as I had been excited to stay here after reading all the others. The B&B is beautiful, with very comfortable beds, maintained to a high standard, and very quite despite a convenient, central location. However, we expected a more personal experience from a B&B, whereas this felt more like a part-time staffed hotel. For us, it was not worth the money paid. I would have provided the following feedback in person or directly, but we were not once asked during our stay, or at check out, or since, how our stay here was. This is particularly disappointing in itself. - We had an issue on arrival with payment confusion. I was rushed into paying with not even time to put shoes on to come downstairs to do so. I had no time to phone my bank or check past statements to confirm I hadn't paid. I offered to pay the next morning which was refused, and subsequently frustrating to see other groups pay the morning after their stay. If there was a reason we couldn't pay the morning after, this was not made clear and made for a bad and stressful start to the holiday having travelled for several hours to reach Bruges. - Breakfast quality varied day-by-day depending on the person serving, we weren't sure what we were meant to expect. For example, one day we had to ask the woman who was working for eggs, on another the man promptly offered eggs/champagne as we sat down. Working on consistency would be great. - The B&B is not always staffed, which is fine. However, when we checked in we were not told how to get in touch with anyone if we had an issue during these unstaffed times. Perhaps the payment issue distracted the host? This information wasn't displayed e.g. in the room or on the back of the front door. - Personal recommendations are what add to the B&B experience. Even telling us 'There's a market in the square tomorrow' would have added to this experience, or telling us 'This place is great for coffee' or 'Get to the Belfry before 10am to beat the queue'. Even just checking in and asking people at breakfast what they were planning for the day etc. These insights are invaluable and would have been a great asset from the hosts. - The day we left, the staff did not seem to know we were checking out. We had to tell them. There were two staff members there when we left, neither asked how our stay had been, they just took the key back from us and that was it. This is far below what I would expect from even a budget hotel, let alone such a highly reviewed place. I'm happy to discuss any of these directly with the B&B.

Hotel de Orangerie by CW Hotel Collection - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

Beautifully appointed historic hotel in a fabulous location, right on a canal. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit early but not to worry, they offered some refreshments out on their patio while we waited, which was a very nice touch. Hotel and room was very clean, very nice modern bath and luxury amenities. Breakfast was very good with lots of variety of wonderful meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurts and breads. We really enjoyed our stay and a bonus is it is next to a very nice brewery, in case you get thirsty!
Hotel Aragon
4.4/5104 Reviews
The Aragon hotel is situated almost in the center of Bruges. Accessibility is easy for small cars, if you happen to have a larger station wagon or even a small or large MPV you will find it difficult to park at the hotel (limited parking spots and not easily accessible). The rooms we booked were in a separate building a 2 minutes walk from the main hotel. The walk over there is no issue, dragging you luggage there though is ! Also as the main hotel has the restaurant and breakfast location, you need to walk there, which was not an issue for us (mid summer 2019 it was nice and dry) but would be on a rainy day. The overall price we paid for the rooms was more then OK as the rooms were spacious and nice. The breakfast is OK, but not up to a 4 star hotel rating. At check out, although everything was prepaid I was asked to pay a local tax by credit card which I found disappointing.
Boutique Hotel Sablon

Situated in the city center, at only minutes walking of all the places of interest, yet in a calm neighborhood, this is a place to come back, every possible occasion. Stylish, cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Professional staff showing pleasure in taking care of every detail to make your stay perfect. Clean, spacious and artful. A top class breakfast with super fresh products coming in wide variety, looked after by friendly and waitresses paying attention to every detail. Fast check-in / -out.
Hotel Monsieur Ernest

The common spaces were charming, but the rooms were disappointing. The first room they offered me was dark and depressing (this is a comment mentioned in other reviews), so they proposed another one on the top floor, but it did not have a safe. Finally, the third one was bright and had a safe. There is no A/C so it was very uncomfortable during warm nights. There is a small fan supplied, but if you wish to open the windows, be prepared to battle the mosquitos (there is a canal just outside). There were traces on the ceiling of crushed mosquitos from previous guests and some live mosquitos were in my room when I checked in! Anything that is not included in the daily cleaning routine is never cleaned. There is accumulated dust on many surfaces, especially black wood furniture frame. This includes the sofa in front of the lobby check in desk and any surface in the room, even the fold out tray to put your suitcase. The paint of the wood tray for the water bottle is peeling away (not sure if this is a design intention). There were traces of lipstick on one of the white bathroom towels. The sink faucet in the bathroom was faulty and hard to open. There is no soundproofing, so you hear every footstep and squeak above your head (the other guests better be quiet!). Because the rooms are fitted in an old building, some spaces (like in bathrooms) do not have proper clearances (see other guest reviews). At night, forget the ambiance in the room, there are two recessed ceiling spotlights that flood the whole room, no specific desk lamp or accent lighting. The only other option are the bedside lights, but they are not enough to give sufficient lighting. My worst experience was with management. After realizing at check in that there was no A/C (my mistake), I wanted to book another hotel for the second night. They said they would refund me if they found someone to take my room for the second night or else I would have to pay, which I thought was a fair proposal. So I cancelled my online reservation to make the room available. The next day, they refused to say if they rented the room and told me they would keep the money even if they did. If they had no intention of refunding me, they should have said so instead of lying and collecting two rentals (including breakfast) for the same night! Disappointing. I would never recommend this place.

The hotel is still great. The breakfast place is very beautiful. The juice for breakfast is very good. The room is also very comfortable. The only thing is that the aunt at the front desk is a little bit strong and makes me a little uncomfortable. The location is also very good. Very quiet. The temperature was 40 degrees at the end of July. The room we stayed in may not face south so it is cool. The toilet is also pretty good. It is recommended for everyone to stay. Bruges is worth visiting for two days (if you like taking pictures). By the way. It is not convenient to take the bus from the railway station and then drag the box down the stone road. There is no uber to play, there seems to be a taxi
