Residence Inn Brownsville

The room had a moldy smell. The workout area/gym was so small🤏🏼, I doubt a second person could fit in there with you. The “free” breakfast is your typical “free” food. You get what you paid for. I doubt I’ll ever be back to this hotel. There is a courtyard next door that my colleagues stayed at and they seemed to like it.

Overpriced. We stayed in a two room suite with queen bed and kitchen. Dark poorly lit hallways. Nonfunctioning rear door access lock. Shower hot water unsafely hot. Dark wall to wall carpet into bathroom sink area. Perhaps rest of hotel is better. Staff were very nice and friendly and the breakfast was better than average. Management seemed concerned, I suspect that they will improve.

Not one of the best Residence Inn experiences and as a Platinum member I’ve stayed in a few. Outside the hotel is nice and looks newly painted. The outdoor pool is nice though jacuzzi was removed over a year ago apparently but unsure why and signs still indicate there is one. Breakfast just ok, I’ve had more food choices at a Fairfield. Staff friendly, parking easy. Hotel on a very busy road. Interior average, a bit dated. We were advised on Marriott app and at check in we would receive daily housekeeping. Day two we left at 10 am and returned at 6 pm. No housekeeping has been done and we had no fresh towels. Housekeeping staff had left for the day we were told. No dishwashing powder provided in room. We were given an upgrade due my status to a room overlooking reception roof and a bedroom window that was damaged so you can’t see out of it properly (see photo). Main issue was could not get internet via Marriott wifi on my laptop but could on my iPad and phone. I spent over 30 minutes with Marriott wifi tech team on phone and fixed issue only to have it happen again later in the day. Called a second time and another 30 mins it was fixed again. Unsure what will happen when I check into Fairfield in another town tonight. No issue with my device, just Marriott wifi suddenly not recognising my device anymore despite it being fine at all other Marriott stays prior.

I love Residence Inns, but this one was a bit sub-par. The property is in a good location, and the staff was super friendly, but there were problems. I was on the third floor far away from the elevator and the Wi-Fi in my room was almost non-existent. There was no kleenex. The toilet would barely flush. And the icing on the cake was there was NO HOT WATER. When I advised the front desk about the water, all I got was an apology. I booked this room with points, so maybe I was given the worst room on the property. Beware.

This is my second review, yes, but I stayed again recently. The quality and ambience of the customer service you receive at this property hasn't changed - still stellar and unmatched in the vicinity. They are never rude, always friendly and willing to help you if the can. This is one of the things that makes this hotel stick out. The rooms are always very clean and don't make you feel "cringy" when you walk through the door. There are a myriad of restaurants nearby with a shopping mall on the other side of the Expressway. It's one of the best places to stay in Brownsville, I would say the second best is their sister property next door at the Courtyard. Even among the various Marriott's I have stayed in around the country, they rise and shine well above the rest in terms of just the way your are pleasantly and noticeably treated. If there was any cons to this place, it's just some of the rooms facing the Expressway have some noise level to them. I'm a pretty light sleeper is the only reason I mention it, if you are a light sleeper as well, request a room that faces away from the Expressway. Oh, and the breakfast! It's not just pastries and coffee. It's fresh eggs, sausage or some other meat and potatoes. The breakfast buffet stands well above anything else in the region. They also still have dinner served 3 nights per week, I think it's Monday-Wednesday. I've been there a few times when dinner was served and it's quite good. Even to the point of serving beer and wine and it's all complimentary. You won't be disappointed staying at this hotel!
