I was so upset by the treatment we received here. I booked a table for 5 people and the day we planned to go my little Granddaughter decided to join us. As she is only 6 I thought it would probably be fine as we could all squash up to fit her in. When we arrived the waitress was very rude and pointed to the table and said no way you can all sit there. The table was more than big enough. We could have fitted 3 more grandchildren in. I told her so and we sat down with plenty of room. Why did she need to be so contrary. Shouldn't staff try their best to accommodate customers. What's happened to polite and courteous attention? We will never go back.

Stayed here last weekend, was a nice stay with good beers and excellent food, especially the breakfast. Wow. The only thing stop it getting 5 stars was the plumbing at night, was nosy tbh when ever someone flushed the loo. Wouldn’t stop me staying again thou. Thanks Mick and shona

At long last, after two postponed booking had a brill three night stay. Hayley most helpful, rooms very comfortable, food as always top notch. Some lovely ales on , daughter lives nearby therefore didn’t need breakfast but it looked very appetising. Definitely recommended 👍

After 8 hours in traffic jams we received a warm and calming welcome. We’d booked for dinner but we’re stressed that we were late. The owner was very understanding and we had a really excellent and surprisingly sophisticated meal with the guest real ale. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was extremely hearty. So much so that we really weren’t hungry for the rest of the day. The waitress/cook could not have been friendlier. Overall I’d certainly stay again. They are clearly struggling for staff but if you can be patient it is well worth it.

Homely, traditional pub Friendly welcome and the food was great Dog friendly This is an 18th century inn situated right in the centre [opposite the towns bakery, delicatessen and butcher] of the town. Well worth a visit if passing through Broughton

We booked a mid week lunch with our family of 4 plus our grandson and 3 dogs. Fantastic welcome. Huge table with lots of room for the dogs to sprawl about. Amazing food. Pigeon Breast. Slow cooked Lamb. Cod and Chips and Venison loin. All perfectly cooked and wonderfully presented. Great beer. No flies !

Booking is essential as the dedicated chef wants to individualise each dish. We tried the duck burger (minus the roll) and the game pie both were great. Owing to the age of the building the none front facing areas (not the dining areas) could do with a refurb.

We had a meal here on Friday due to staying nearby and the great reviews. We didn’t think it was very clean and my meal was not good. I ordered lamb and it was all bone. I don’t normally send food back but at £17, it wasn’t acceptable. To be fair, they did accept it wasn’t good and that we wouldn’t be charged. However, that message didn’t reach the person who sorted our bill and when we got back, we realised we’d been charged. Maybe we are spoiled where we live in Cheshire but how did this place get an award? Maybe we caught it on a bad night. It was also empty on a Friday eve by the time we left at around 9pm. I don’t normally post reviews but I felt annoyed that I’d chosen this place based on the reviews so feel that balance is necessary.
