The spacious family room offers a comfortable bed and clean pillows. The staff is exceptionally friendly and efficient. However, some guests were dissatisfied with the change in breakfast service from continental to room-service.

What a lovely pub, staff were amazing very polite all day long and couldn't do enough to help. Got there at dinner had few drinks then went races came back tea time omg the food was absolutely delicious and plenty of it. The bar staff was so friendly and hard working. Would highly recommend and we will be back.

Great pub food in a truly convivial atmosphere, the gentle hum of conversation, the kind attention of the blonde waitress, a visit to our table by the chef, all combined to make a lovely evening out. We are vegetarian and the choices were impressive, looking forward to our next visit.

Stayed the night there after going to races in the afternoon. Had a drink before going to the track and drinks with a meal after and must state that the red headed girl behind the bar was lovely. She seemed to be on her own at lunchtime and coped very well but was assisted in the evening by an equally lovely blond girl who also did the waitressing. First class staff! Great food and we will be returning in July for another race day. Thank you.

Visited tonight for my sons birthday. 4 adults 2 children. Food was ok but I wouldn’t say the service was worth the price we paid. We were shoved in a corner next to the carvery. The table was very sticky. I was told this was due to the varnish but one end of the table hadn’t been cleaned as it was full of crumbs and salt from the previous guests. We had dirty workmen squeezing behind us to get to the corridor up to the rooms and people walking out the back door at the end of our table every five minutes coming back stinking of cigarettes. I took a small birthday cake and candles which was brought out after the meal. We were given napkins to eat the cake off but no cutlery or plates so had to eat it with our fingers. I appreciate we didn’t purchase the cake from the restaurant but after spending over £110 I would have thought a couple of plates and forks wouldn’t have been begrudged. Didn’t feel like a nice meal to celebrate a birthday. A burns night menu was also on offering with a piper promised to play at 7pm but when he arrived he said he couldn’t play so said a 30 second poem and left. Would have been equally as disappointed in the evening if we had come specifically for burns night.

It was our second visit as we had called in on the way upto nearHexham and been impressed a week ago. Now on the way home, it was just as good as we had remembered. There are some interesting dishes on the menu but also some classics like the fish and chips I had. The portion sizes are huge, be warned. My fish was cooked to perfection in a light tasty batter - it had been skinned, unlike the fish I received recently in a local establishment. The chips were proper chips - hand cut, crisp outside and squidgy middle. We had eaten in a supposedly very upmarket establishment the day before. That had made booking with a small dog a necessity. It had been pleasant enough but the food had been only ok. The chips there had been advertised as being home cooked. They might have been cooked there but they were certainly not home prepared. They prided themselves on Michelin mentions and the prices reflected that. We wouldn’t bother to go back to the other one but we would certainly go to this again. Small things matter - crisp skin on the fish in my husband’s meal, presentation rarely found in a pub. And someone behind the bar who went out of his way to help a disabled chap who was leaving. The Farmer’s Arms deserves recognition. This place has excellent service, wonderful food with real attention to detail and you couldn’t wish for a more down to earth attitude. Prices reflect the quality of the ingredients and the skills of the chef(s).

The parking is good front and to the side and the access is level. Good friendly welcome immediately seated and drinks and menus at the table. The menu is not huge but it's more than adequate. There is also plenty of outside seating and a children's play area. The food was freshly cooked and very nice with adequate portions. The staff were all efficient and very helpful. Check times of food service as it may not be late every evening. Its a nice pub
