The Rising Sun

After being told to visit this place by a family friend we decided to visit with the family. The location itself is great, especially on a nice summer evening. The waitress who served us was extremely friendly and looked after us and the food was excellent, no complaints at all. However, the food come out in dribs and drabs, meaning family members had eaten before other family members had their food. Then sides come out following us having eaten the main meal which sort of defeats the object really. The car park was an absolute nightmare as well. We couldn't get out of it and eventually had to have somebody move their car to ensure we could leave which was a little frustrating. The pub is well known and extremely busy meaning that everyone piles as many cars into the car park as possible therefore blocking others. Despite this, the food when it arrived was good. The location is lovely and a little walk along the river with the baby following our food helped to get him to sleep. We will visit again, hopefully when its a little less busy and leave a further review.

Overnight stay. Food fantastic and staff very attentive and willing. We stayed in room 2 overlooking the river. Comfy bed but room could do with a cosmetic refresh. The one thing which disappointed and would stop us staying in this room again was the overwhelming smell of damp in the bathroom which would come into the room every time you opened the bathroom door. Entrance to rooms also needs a tidy up as not very welcoming.

Bad food bad service, we complained to the waitress but to no avail,£180 wasted would not go back, the Recruiting sergeant pub is a part of the group but has far better staff and food. We had goulash at the rising sun, it was not fresh and the dumplings were dry and crusty, also did not taste very nice. Wine was extortunate price £32 a bottle. £8 in Tescos.

Lovely lunch by the river sat in sun. Room has amazing view of the river. Dinner in evening with very attentive staff. Our second stay, we will definitely be back. Try the lamb shank shepherds pie!!! And breakfast is amazing too. Looks like the Pizzas are very popular too

Firstly, the food we had here was very good. A lunchtime pizza was the best we had in Britain, and then later four of us all ate well and the service was good. Our room for the night was accessed via a door at rear of the building and up a flight of narrow stairs. Quite spacious, it had a queen bed and the esuite thankfully had an excellent shower. The room looked out over the pub’s rear courtyard and the river beyond and it could be noisy in bust warm months - but quiet during our visit. A repaint and carpet clean is due, in my opinion. I found the bed to be uncomfortable. Breakfast was included and was well presented but we paid extra for expresso coffee. For a country pub our stay was good but could have been better with attention to detail in the bedroom.

The staff here are exceptional, there was nothing too much trouble (including me choosing to eat inside then outside, changing tables) and the bill was still spot on and they were so polite and helpful. This place is a must visit as the food is awesome too. Can’t fault a thing
