Grandhotel Giessbach

Brienz|2.75km from city centre
The good: The scenery and setting! The views are unbeatable. They are even more beautiful than in the photos; they're jaw-droppingly breathtaking. And the grounds surrounding the hotel are equally lovely. The waterfall is gorgeous, and the funicular is a fun way to go down to the lake where the boat will await you. The bad: The rooms and the flies. The room was dated without modern facilities. I think we may have only had 2 or 3 outlets in the entire suite, no air conditioning, and the shower was 3' x 3' at most. Probably less. One has to be flexible to fully bathe in the cramped space. And forget about shaving your legs unless you're a gymnast. Then there were the flies. We had dinner at the restaurant, where we were put in the back corner though there were many free tables in better locations that were never sat. We were next to a mirror that seemed to be a meeting place for the country's flies. At any given time, we were besieged by anywhere between 8 and 20 flies. The meal itself was expensive and mediocre, but when you add swarms of flies to the mix, it ended up being revolting. Breakfast was the same. It was a fly-riddled buffet with most items left out in the open for them to feast on. The ugly: The service was abominable. There were exceptions, like one server at the bar and a helpful valet, but most were at best indifferent and at worst downright rude and condescending--particularly the front desk staff. One of many examples: we tried connecting to wi-fi but we never got the code. When we asked the front desk for help, he simply said we should have an email with the code if it wasn't working. Without wi-fi, we can't access email. After explaining this, he VERY begrudgingly gave it to us as if we were asking for something totally unreasonable and he was really being put out by it. Interestingly, they were also somewhat incompetent. You'd think with their attitude of superiority that they'd at least be on top of their game, but no. It took me four tries and two days to get laundry service for one clothing item, and even then, it only happened after we walked it down and gave it to them ourselves having given up on their actually coming to get it as promised. Likewise, when I asked at the bar what was in the hotel's special version of the Moscow Mule (I forget the name), the bartender said ”orange and I'm not sure what else. ” He then told me a gentlemen at a table near us ordered one so why didn't we go ask him. Um, really? Not to mention, they were completely unhelpful and gave us zero check-in information on room, hotel, or anything at all throughout our stay. The bottom line: I do not recommend staying here. I would absolutely visit for the views (maybe for a drink, lunch, or a hike), but the stay is not worth the rude treatment, dingy rooms, and contingent of flies.

Grandhotel Giessbach

Brienz|2.49km from Brienzersee view point

Brienz Youth Hostel

We spent 2 nights in this beautiful youth hostel. The framework is beautiful, with the blue-green Brienz lake and mountains. All is clean and welcome, breakfast is exquisite as well as the meal that is very good. We could only have passed from meat in the evening that was not top. We have a small garden with tables and transactions that gives on the lake. Just next to,a mini beach where to bathe. This very successful stay, I strongly recommend!

I have always thought that Swiss hotels are very expensive, especially in the summer European travel season, this time I went to play near Interlaken, and chose this hotel in the town of Lake Brienz. In general, it still has a certain price/performance ratio. Facilities: On the hill in the town of Brienz, the facilities are complete, and there is an indoor pool, dry steaming and sauna. The hotel has a terrace restaurant, the view is also very good, that is, Indian food tastes average. Health: It may be ecologically good, there are insects and moths in the cabin, and everything else is OK. Environment: Very good, this time I booked a family loft, I can see the mountain view on the back mountain side, if it is a lake view standard room, you should be able to see the lake view. Services: There is a shuttle bus to the train station, which is very good, otherwise the luggage up and down the mountain is definitely a big problem. Later, Switzerland can be used as a transit to Interlaken and Lucerne, if the price continues to maintain the advantage.
