We have been to Roatan 3 times now, and we always dive, so I'll make this a combo review of the hotel and dive shop. This was a trip we planned for just my wife and me, to chill out after a stressful 2023. We are both experienced divers with close to 1,000 dives between us, so this was an important factor in our decision of where to stay. We like quality and upmarket boutique hotels or sometimes AirBnBs when we go away. We were lucky to stay in the Grand Villa on the island, which was possibly one of the largest hotel rooms/apartments we've ever stayed in. It is right on the water and has its own plunge pool and tons of space with a very large bedroom, 2 bathrooms, a sitting room, and a large screened-in area. The restaurant is very close, the food is carried and very good and the staff is great. I can't recommend it enough. The dive shop is very well run by Ron, who has his act together supported by a great team. I would dive with him anytime. His dive briefings are spot on and he's very safety conscious and doesn't rush the dives; nearly all our dives were 60 minutes or more. The dive sites on this side of the island are beautiful and in good shape with only a moderate amount of bleaching. We saw a lot of small stuff and many healthy hard and soft corals. All the dive sites are within 20 minutes by boat, which was never overcrowded. We had a lot of great downtime as it's very peaceful here when you're not diving, which is just what we wanted. We did go to a few restaurants, but a couple were quite average and probably would have been better to just eat at the hotel's restaurant. There are many things to do on Roatan, so if you do want to have more of a lively break, there are excursions and places to visit, but if you're not a diver, it would be a very quite and relaxing place to stay.

My first time in Roatan couldn't be better. I planned the trip around my best friend's wedding, and got to celebrate my birthday as well. It was amazing. Food was delicious, I got surprised by the BEST lava cake -as my boyfriend refers to it- and enjoyed every second by being able to workout at the dock, swim in the open waters and rest at an amazing suite with a windblown view.

Staying here was such a wonderful experience; I wish I could go back! The hotel is perfect for divers, but there's also plenty of space to relax and just enjoy paradise if that's what you're looking for. From our room, the ocean was just a couple of steps away, as were some lounge chairs and a hammock that made rest very refreshing. My weekend at Barefoot Cay was exactly what I needed to escape from the hecticness of the city! Also the staff is welcoming and a lot of fun (they make great cocktails!)

I had the pleasure of staying here, and I must say my experience was nothing short of amazing! The stunning view of the ocean from every corner of the hotel was a constant treat, adding to the overall relaxing atmosphere. The culinary offerings were top-notch, with every meal leaving a lasting impression. The staff was incredibly attentive and warm, ensuring that every aspect of our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. My room was also very comfortable and had a great view. There was a lot of attention to detail to ensure we were always comfortable. Visiting with my friends only heightened the experience, and we all felt incredibly fortunate to have chosen this location for our getaway.

If you’re like me and prefer to avoid overcrowded dive resorts, this is the perfect choice. The resort is conveniently located just a short drive from the airport on the south side of the island, situated on a charming private cay. It’s separated from the main island by a small canal. To reach the cay, there’s a small barge that ferries you from the main building. Here, you’ll discover nine cozy villas that provide an exclusive, private atmosphere. It genuinely feels like you have the cay all to yourself. Some of the finest dive sites, including the renowned Mary’s Place, are just a short boat ride away from the resort. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive to every detail. Your equipment is always prepared, making it easy to jump right into the boat. The dive groups are kept small, with no more than 6 to 8 divers at a time. Without a doubt, we’ll be returning next year!

We are longtime advanced divers and reserved this trip through PADI. I will echo the other reviews about how lovely the property is, how warm the staff are, how stunning the diving is, how good the food in the restaurant is (though not exactly cheap). This place was perfect for a week of diving. We rented the two bedroom house, which was just charming, with two bedrooms with two queen beds and a nice bathroom in each, and a central living room with full kitchen, and beachfront patio table with a view and lounge chairs on the beach. Great coffee and a full drip coffee maker for the morning. Staff will arrange a driver to take you to the market for supplies for the kitchen. Decorating is simple and light filled. Everything was very clean, with daily maid service. Our casita was the farthest from the restaurant, but still plenty close, with a private beach on the other (far) side. All of the 10 casitas are well situated, so don’t worry too much about which one you get. We generally did two dives a day, up to 4 as weather allowed, including an incredible night dive. When the wind picked up, they just took us over to the other side of the island by van and we dove from there. Two of us rented decent equipment. Divemasters were friendly and knowledgeable, and put up with “that guy” well (you know the one: boastful mansplainer, ignores divemaster and basic safe diving limits, chases the wildlife, shoves his camera at every find, and otherwise interferes with other people’s dive enjoyment— don't be that guy). This is the quiet side of the island, so not a lot to do if you don’t dive. Staying in the hotel rooms above the dive shop on the main island would be a fine budget option, but you’d miss out on the ocean view and the charm of being on the island. I’m allergic to bug bites, so they are obvious in me, and got 12 during the whole week. My companions either didn’t get any or didn’t notice them, even being lax with bug spray. I would 100% come back to Barefoot Cay.

Honestly wish I could give 10 stars. The resort, the staff, the restaurant and the overall organization was top notch. I feel as if I’ve been lucky enough I stay at some very high quality places and Barefoot Cay takes one of my top spots. The attention to detail is immaculate. The restaurant staff is amazing, so attentive and always such great conversation. The resort is always so well maintained, from the groundskeepers to the house keepers. Front desk staff made getting off the resort so easy, organizing transportation to and from. Barefoot cay is a perfect, secluded getaway. The dive shop staff is also great, Ron & Ferrell were amazing. This place is the perfect piece of private, secluded paradise. We will definitely be returning!
