After travelling around Italy several times as well as many other countries in the world during which I have stayed in many different hotels, I have finally come across one which I wish existed in every town and country......the Locanda Delle Mercanzie. Simple to get to from the main railway station in Brescia; just get the Metro in the Prealpino direction and get off after one stop at Vittoria and then it's just three or four minutes walk. Very centrally located to visit the piazzas, churches, the castello and other architectural delights being just a few minutes walk from most the hotel could not have been better located! The owners have taken a very old building and modernised it but keeping as much of the 'old' that they could and using decor that fits in perfectly with the area. Decoration is a personal type thing of course, but to my wife and I, it was perfect. Really beautiful and done with a lot of good taste. Check-in very quick and simple and boy were we delighted when we saw the room (no. 41). Yet again, spacious with a very comfortable bed, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated with kettle and coffee/tea etc, fast internet wifi connection, USB port by the bed, shampoo/soaps etc which were of better quality than one normally finds in hotels and the view from the window was spectacular. Furthermore the air-conditioning was excellent. In the bathroom the shower was powerful, there was quality hair-dryer and a clothes drying rack as well which worked well. The safe in the bedroom was also simple to use. There is also a tower room at the top of the building with some books and chairs to sit and admire the views which are of the city all around the building. Again, an amazing place. Breakfast was lovely. A variety of cold meats and cheeses, pastries, croissants, breads, cereals, yoghurts as well as freshly pressed orange juice and cappucino. The breakfast room is on the first floor with a balcony and open windows and it adds to the lovely atmosphere. If you want, you can also ask for eggs done the way you want and bacon or pancakes. If you arrive back at the hotel later than 2200 hrs, there is a keycode card system to gain entry and we used it a couple of times and it worked perfectly. Check-out was as quick and simple as check-in. I can't recall if the Locanda Delle Mercanzie has six or eight rooms but is basically a lovely small, boutique hotel/inn. The owner and her daughter are very, very amiable and helpful. Nothing seemed to be too hard to do for their guests. So with such lovely staff and such lovely decor and surroundings; and in a superb location it really doesn't get any better. Made an excellent change from the usual 'chain' hotels and when the financial cost is factored in, it makes it all even better as the price for staying at the Locanda Delle Mercanzie was very reasonable. Would I stay again? That's a very, very, very definite yes, yes, yes and yes again! I wouldn't even bother reviewing
