Sonder the Magnolia

While I rated my experience Very Good I would have rated Excellent if not for my experience on Sonder's Chat feature. I would have rated it even less if not for Sean's helpfulness on site during my transition from one unit in the property to another unit in the property. I travel for work and stay at Marriott properties an extended period of time. I am also a Bonvoy Ambassador elite member due to my extended stays. I had been staying at this particular Sonder property in Boston since 12/08 my work engagement was extended to May 31 2025. Unfortunately I did not secure the unit I was staying in soon enough (4 weeks ahead of time) and needed to move to another unit. Asked for late checkout from the unit I was in and early checkin to the unit I was moving into. I got late check out without charge (which is typical for Bonvoy AE members) but was charged for early checkin (not typical for Bonvoy AE members) Sean assisted with moving all of my luggage and items (which is more than a typical trip since I've been in Boston since 12/08 now 2/1 and cold weather clothes are much heavier and bulkier). Thanks Sean for all of your help.

Beautiful apartment located in the best area. It was my first time visiting so the location was perfect. Very clean, modern and stocked up. Would definitely recommend. The only downside was the noise, we had a lift in our room (you couldn’t use) but it was shared with shake shack downstairs and was very noisy from them up to 11pm. As you would expect in the city the street was also very noisy all night / early morning so ear plugs are a must!!

Very difficult to book more than one room- not great for business travels. I had to verify my identity multiple times and finally had to call and someone has to rest app and I up loaded again- unfortunately, this happened at check in and I was standing in the cold for 20+ min and then ran late since I couldn’t get into my room. The staff was helpful and polite. The room/ apartment itself was very nice. Loved the location and the value. I hope they get the tech sorted out because I would like to try again.

The location here is amazing and the room had everything that we needed. It was just as described. Being able to have kitchen amenities not typically available in a hotel was great. The space was very nice and the beds were comfortable. The view is mostly an alley view, but we were not there much during the day. We were on the third floor and it was a bit of a walk up the stairs. Someone that has trouble walking or climbing stairs might not make it. It has easy access to the rail system about three blocks away and many things in walking distance. The area seems very safe for a large city. I thought it was great and I definitely hope to stay there again.

A home away from home! Sonder provided the privacy of an apartment with the same ties of a hotel. Sonder is always my first choice when I travel! I was able to stash my leftovers, wash clothes, and sleep well with a white noise machine. Detailed instructions for accessing & navigating the space.

I was weary of the oddly low reviews for this place, especially given how pricey it is (as is everywhere in Boston, especially during the fall season). I needn't have worried. The location is right in the middle of the action on bustling Newbury Street, so perfectly placed. We strolled into the centre several times via the tree-lined avenue that runs all the way up the adjacent street. Note that if you are after somewhere quiet, this isn't for you - it is a busy street, especially in the evenings/weekends. Yes there is noise, but this is to be expected. Take some earplugs, no problem (this was a sign in a room saying earplugs were provided, although they weren't, so glad I came prepared). The appeasement was great. We had a king on floor 3. The main kitchen/loving space was excellent. I've dropped one star as although she bathroom is totally adequate (including a nice shower), it has all become a little scuffed and battered at the edges, so is certainty not 'luxury'. The check in process was also completely smooth. If travelling from abroad you will need to make sure you have a working mobile phone to get the email/text with the check-in details (which are just codes for the door entry system - there is no reception and no one on site to help you). I asked a few questions about the self-storage lockers via the Sonder app, and had fast and helpful responses. I should address the things about stairs, which seems to be the basis of most of the bad reviews. I agree the fact there is no lift (unless you are in the 'accessible' apartment, which has a dedicated lift) could be made clearer in the advertisement/booking websites. BUT unless you are elderly or have health issues, this seriously should not be any problem whatsoever! We had 4 large bags, which we managed to get up the stairs without issue, and once you are in, going up one for two flights of stairs when you dip in and out really isn't a problem! It's an apartment block, so stairs should not be a surprise!! Overall, this was perfect as a base for a couple of days to explore the city.
