The Kingsley Bloomfield Hills - a DoubleTree by Hilton

Bloomfield Hills|4.95km from Costco Wholesale
We chose this hotel over a different less expensive hotel down the street because of the highly reviewed restaurant and the beautiful interior photos on the website. We paid around $400 for this room. When we arrived, we discovered that the hotel was hosting a Classic Cars event. All of the parking spaces at the front entrance and along the sides were taken up by Classic Cars and parade tents filled with partying people. There was a very loud band blocking the hotel entrance as well, and it was raining. This all might have been fun if we were Classic Car enthusiasts, but we are not. We're just regular family people and we were there for a baptism at the church down the road. The hotel bar and restaurant were completely filled with event guests. We discovered we had been booked into an Accessible room, meaning that it was outfitted for wheelchairs, but we are young(ish) and not disabled. Other than that, the room was pretty......until we opened the curtains and were staring at what must have been the entire HVAC system for the hotel. Possibly worst of all, there was a piped-in scent throughout the hotel - even in our room - that reminded me of cheap 1980's men's musk cologne. It was awful. It permeated our clothes, and my hair. All night, cars were revving their engines. However, the front desk staff was very nice. What we experienced was definitely not what was advertised by this hotel.

We stayed here last month while visiting family in the area. Normally we’d stay with them, but with Covid 19 we felt more comfortable staying in a large hotel chain which I’d been hearing had enhanced cleaning and sanitizing. When we pulled up, we noticed a sign on the exterior door to the lobby that stated something to the effect of “masks required in all common areas of the hotel. Any violations could result in eviction”. Good. This is what we were looking for. It went downhill from there. After checking in, we went up to our room. Elevator door opens and there stands a group of people, none of them wearing masks. Our room appeared clean enough. There was a bit of an odor which I attributed to the cleaning/sanitizing. When I went back out to the car there was another person standing in the lobby on the phone with no mask on and the guy at the desk wasn’t doing anything about it. So much for enforcement of the rules. The next day I showered and noticed very little shampoo in the provided shampoo tube. I think that the cleaning crew didn’t replace all of the toiletries from the last guest. Gross. I asked the front desk about it and they assured me more cleaning was going on but could not give me specifics. We also found trash (photos attached) from a previous guest in two spots in the room so the thorough cleaning is bunk. The cleaning crew were also standing around the hallways talking to each other (with guests walking by!) without masks on. Loud guests in the hallways until late at night as well. Overall just a terrible experience. Would not recommend or stay here again and I’ve had numerous great experiences with the Springhill Suites chain and Marriott properties in general.
