There's a lot i liked abvout this place, but the things i didn't will keep me from re-visiting. The good were that it's a quiet and safe location in lovely countryside, the rooms are clean, with a bath as well as shower always welcome, the staff were on the whole friendly, & the food is good albeit on the pricy size i thought, but for me the negatives were that the photo's showed real ale hand pumps, however in reality they look like they have long been removed, with a poor selection of 5 beers and lagers, and 2 of those were sold out for the duration of my 4 day stay. you can't get a breakfast before 8, and you have to pre-book a time to have one of those at £17.95 if the time is available, although the restaurant never seemed that busy. The sign close buy says food all day, however it doesnt open till 3pm for anything, making my early arrival before check-in a waste of time, (existing guests however can still access their rooms during the closed period). You can't also run up a tab to your room, you have to either pay as you go or at the end of the night, and they dont take cash. There was also an incident when the power went out due to a storm at about 3.30pm, and the barman was adamant he couldnt serve us residents drinks or beer till it was restored, even after suggesting he listed it against our (already paid) rooms, which really peed us off, so had to ask him to get the owner on the phone, after we said we wanted a refund to go elsewhere, and after talking to the owner (who seemed a nice guy), the barman then came back and told us 'HE'D sorted it for us' hahaha and we could have a salad or a sandwich to eat, plus drinks. we just felt like a cog in the hotels machine and not that the barmans first option was to do the best he could for the customers, dunkirk spirit and all that. You only get a few freesat channels on tv that actually work if you want to chill out for an hour, despite one review i saw somewhere saying '100', but as i said i didnt overly dislike my stay, however i can find many other places i think offer more for the same money.

An older hotel but we were really pleasantly surprised. A lovely comfortable bed and everywhere was immaculately clean. There is a quiet little walk along the river in the grounds. Our only problem was that service in the dining room was rather slow but this was more than compensated for when the food arrived as it was piping hot and of excellent quality. I had the Brie and fig tartlet with a side as my main course and it was nothing short of delicious. The continental breakfast was unlike any I had seen before…warm rolls with delicious thick carved ham and cheese. Hubbie was equally pleased with his cooked breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.

Family of four plus three dogs (two puppies) went there for an afternoon meal. Staff (owners/managers?) were super friendly and welcoming. Menu options were better than your average pub grub and the prices reflected that but it was worth it - food was amazing!! Definitely recommend.

A lovely historic old hotel at the base of the Cairngorms. Lovely old photos and truly Scottish. The room was spacious and comfortable and the food was excellent. We saw a red squirrel in the beer garden which was nice. However we were in room 1 which is at the front of the hotel by the road. It was hot and so the widows needed to be open for ventilation. There is no double glazing. Large trucks and farm vehicles were thundering past the room from 6am onwards and it was like sleeping in a highway. There are traffic lights right outside so we could even hear the radios and music being played inside the vehicles when they stopped right outside our room. The hotel is nice and the other rooms seem fairly quiet but avoid room 1 at all costs. We got little sleep

Helpful and friendly staff. Incredible dinner (fish pie). Cute room. Although road is right there it got quiet enough in the evening to sleep with open window. Nice walk along the river.
