Westgate Manor

A great place to unwind , located in a small village in the Yorkshire Dales . The superb service from the owners , provides a relaxed a**osphere in a classic manor house and surrounding gardens . The breakfast and evening meals are very well presented and food excellent , a well stocked bar with a range of beverages and wines completes the offering to guests .

We stayed for 3 nights on this our 4th visit. The hospitality of Kathryn & Stuart has always been perfect and the meals a delight at breakfast or after a day out in the surrounding beautiful countryside. We cannot fault any aspect of Westgate Manor from the handsome building and large well furnished bedroom & bathroom to the beautifully prepared & presented meals. The surrounding countryside across the dales of the Tees, the Wear and the Tyne is stunning and refreshingly quiet cf the lakes. A gem of a place.

Stayed here for one night only on a recent cycling trip (it's bike friendly which makes things easy). Taking everything into account it was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed at, specifically: superb hosts Stuart and Kathryn; great attention to detail eg fresh milk for early in room coffee/tea, underfloor heating bathroom; great big room and bathroom; bike friendly; local ale by the fire in the lounge; incredibly high standard of internal decoration; beautiful big old house with history and character; large room; lovely home made evening meal; not overly formal just lovely people. Absolutely fantastic I'll definitely be going back.

As soon as I entered the Manor, I was blown away with the incredibly high standard of furnishings, decor, layout of the rooms, and the cleanliness. The hosts, Stuart and Kathryn, were incredibly warming and welcoming. Every room I entered was beautifully set out with an aura of warmth and comfort. Very relaxing. Bedroom was equally warming, bed was super comfortable, good heating in the room and a very large and luxurious bathroom. Did I forget to mention the heated bathroom floor? And just when I thought I’d entered heaven on earth, out comes the food !!! Wow! Folks, I’m having a hard time articulating how awesome an experience it was staying at the Westgate Manor. My only regret was I couldn’t stay longer, and I’m being serious. My stay was very peaceful, relaxing and a super friendly time conversing with Stuart and Kathryn. Cheers very much to both of you for your dedication to blessing my socks off. I’ve stayed in many B&B’s, hotels, etc, around the world over the last 32 years, and nothing I’ve seen comes close to this. Cheers again, and can’t wait to return next time I’m in the UK.

What a super and personal place to stay. Everything was just excellent from start to finish. Stuart and Catherine were the perfect hosts from greeting us as we arrived and waving us farewell on departure. Rooms were tastefully furnished and decorated. Very spacious and light too. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Cooked to perfection by Catherine while Stuart served the well chosen wine. Loved every second of our time there and will be returning for longer next visit. Certainly worthy of 5 starts

I had the pleasure of a last minute one night at this “gem” of a hotel, we had booked the “Bellevue four poster room” this included a very nicely prepared breakfast. The room was to a very good standard and very clean, the bed linen was to an acceptable standard but not he best, the quilt was a synthetic type but was adequate for a good night sleep. The pillows were plentiful and firm. The room tray was to a very good standard with milk in a fridge outside the room in the corridor (which was to my liking due to the sound of a fridge at night). The bathroom was very “one off” with a ball and claw standalone bath and a very nice shower cubicle in glass with a large shower head. With no issues in the room with openable sash windows and a good supply of hot water (we were the only guests so I cant say what the pressure is like when the hotel is at full capacity). During our stay we ate at the Hotel restaurants that was to a very good standard with a very good wine list. All in all I would highly recommend anyone to visit this fantastic “Gem” of an establishment.

Stayed in 3 different rooms over the years, all very good with comfy beds, top quality fixtures, furnishings and bathrooms. Both dinner and breakfast excellent with good choice of food and drink. The residents lounge is comfortable and we watched the England rugby game on large screen TV enjoying a beer from the well stocked bar. The best thing about Westgate is the owners friendly , helpful .

An immaculate, beautiful property, we could not fault it. A true gem nestled away. The rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious with very, comfy beds! Best nights sleep ive had in ages! We were very well looked after by the hosts Kathryn and Stuart who are both lovely and friendly. The food was outstanding, with an alternative breakfast choice. All food was cooked to order, so you need to pre-book and select your menu choice in advance. Lovely grounds and very peaceful and relaxing. 10 out of 10 for us! Would definitely recommend.
