Lots of potential but needs TLC. Room needs some work, scrapes on wall, dust on bedside tables, very dated bathroom. Came to get ready about 5 and no hot water! We called reception and they sorted it but advised we wait 15 mins -didn’t have time. Breakfast very limited choice.

Two nights stay in this beautiful building. Staff so very helpful and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them. Room amazing, four poster bed with large en'suite with walk in shrower and a big bath. On the doorstep to so many good walks. Our only negative, is there is no alcohol licence. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel.

The worst night we have spent in any hotel in the U.K. The room was very dated, dirty, and stank of cigarette smoke. The window was open when we arrived to mask the smell of cigarette smoke. The window had Ivy growing through the opening which I had to remove to try to secure the window before we went out for the night.

I’m originally from Bingley so know this hotel and it’s history well. I have a soft spot for it….but I’m afraid there’s a limit. There was no one around when we arrived, and when eventually someone turned up we got quite a hostile greeting (certainly not a welcome) perhaps because we had to ring the bell so loudly. We were given key cards, directed to our rooms and left to our own devices. An offer to help with our bags would have been nice, but that didn’t happen. We didn’t see a single soul there for the rest of the day and evening. The room was full of character, old style and good size, which needs some redecorating around the windows. But a broken shower door, a glass panel with a sharp corner hanging flimsily from its runner was not forgivable. No ventilation in the bathroom earthier and the window was painted shut. The double bed bounced too much keeping me awake every time my partner turned over and the TV didn’t work. However, I fixed the TV..the aerial cable was loose. Breakfast was cereal and toast. Some “cold meats” were available, in quotes because they couldn’t have been cold just sitting on the side and I’m guessing they were meat…I wasn’t brave enough to try. I understand no pork or alcohol is allowed to be served. Some small bite sized pastries were left out too. The chap was helpful, and made us some toast, but I don’t think that was his job since he was dressing in workman’s utility type trousers and had a pair of large headphones on. I feel sorry for the (absent) staff, who don’t seem to be there anymore. I stayed a few months ago and the friendly lady on reception made all the difference. Without her there, it just wasn’t the same experience and sadly I don’t think I’ll be staying there again with the family. However, if you want a cheap bed for the night, don’t want any frills and appreciate old buildings then I’d still recommend it, with some caveats!

Lovely looking hotel from the outside. Once through the front doors things were very different. Could be so much better. This hotel has no bar. This needs to be mentioned on the first page of booking. The staff, especially Marisse (who was so so helpful ) the other staff would benefit from more customer service training. We were given our key and then left to work out which way to go, we went the wrong way, which was ok and a little funny but if we had been tired from a long drive this would have been annoying. We were in room 18, very nice and comfortable for our 1 night stay. A noise of an extractor fan started about 11pm phoned reception to see what was going on but got no answer. Had to go and explore ourselves. The noise was coming from a toilet down the hall, the light had been left on so the fan was running. It was loud. Turned light off and all was good. Reception called back just after midnight, let the phone ring for 2 rings then hung up! Again we found this a little funny but sure others would not. No one on reception in the morning to discuss or advise about this. Would I stay again. Yes I would but don’t think too much about the breakfast as it was a very basic continental.

Perfect for a stop over on my own. Room had everything I needed and excellent wifi and very quiet. There was no food available on a Friday evening which I knew in advance but the staff were happy for one's own food to be consumed in the public areas which was fine. Breakfast was continental and perfectly adequate. Price of room was very good and made a nice change from being in a holiday/premier inn. The building is beautiful. The train station is about 20 minutes away so an easy walk down the hill. Thanks to Marisse in reception who made the guests very welcome.

We stayed here on a Saturday night, last minute booking. The hotel is beautiful, it obviously was a grand house in its time. Very quiet and spotlessly clean. The staff are really polite and helpful. Unfortunately there is no licenced bar but the hotel allows you to consume your own alcohol in the public places. Personally, the lack of a bar area impacts on the ambience. Although, for some people this might be to their liking. We stayed in a double room which was clean and had all the amenities that you would expect, albeit a little old. Our bed was not very comfortable (room 16) but for such a big hotel it is very well heated. No cooked breakfast but plenty as an alternative, meats, cheeses, pastries, fruit, cereal etc. This hotel just needs a little TLC.

Very good visit & price. Reception very welcoming on arrival. Room comfortable. Lovely building. A couple of suggestions: 1) Room 10 needs new pillows & mattress. 2) Breakfast buffet - please use ice trays to keep cooked meats & fish fresh.
