We stayed in one of the lodges for two nights to attend a family wedding. We chose the lodge over staying in a room in the castle because we fancied a hot tub in the woodland. First impression was “it’s small, beautiful and quaint”. We was so looking forward to a luxurious couple of days considering the cost of this lodge. It’s tiny. The bed (which was two singles pushed together) literally took up the whole of the bedroom. You had to open the door and launch yourself onto the end of the bed and crawl up. You could not walk round the bed. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we had ever slept in. We mentioned this after the first night and was not offered any exchange of room as the hotel was full. On check out the gentleman who I believe was the manager/owner? Was in reception. He was hugely apologetic and certainly smoothed over our issues by saying he would send us a voucher should we try their castle again in the future. I guess he was just trying to get rid of us because two weeks later we are still waiting for the email he said he would send to us. Not that we would go back there again now anyway! Nespresso machine didn’t work. There was no hot water at times The main (and only) door to the lodge was swollen so extremely difficult to close without slamming this. Also difficult to lock. The breakfast basket is poor to say the least. Cold roll, cold croissant, orange juice, an orange, cornflakes, with milk and some natural yogurt. On a positive note when I rang reception and explained that I didn’t like anything in the basket they laid a table for us in the dinning room where we had a full breakfast, Danish pastries, choose of cereals with strawberries, grapes and blueberries. A far better option so thank you for this it was appreciated but feel that if there was choice in the basket we would not have had to get dressed and go to the hotel. On a positive note the wedding was amazing, food served was hot and delicious. The staff worked so hard they deserve recognition for this. So come on Cornhill Castle, change your beds as we couldn’t have been the only people to stay there to complain. If it wasn’t for two nights of no sleep I probably wouldn’t have complained about the rest. We went from here to Edinburgh for the weekend and when we checked out we were so looking forward to our Premier Inn bed. Where you know what you are getting and they have a sleep policy whereby they refund your room value if you don’t have a good night sleep. Premier Inn didn’t disappoint.
