The room is clean and tidy. There is a red line subway nearby, making travel convenient. Close to Washington Cathedral.

Very bad, the lobby is under renovation and there is lots of noise during the day. The air conditioner in the room is broken and there is no hot air. It took two days to complain to the front desk before it was repaired. It was so uncomfortable to live there. Highly not recommended!

Trust me, if you can stay elsewhere else in this part of Bethesda, you should. This property is way overpriced for what you get and it’s the worst HGI I’ve ever stayed (and I used to be a Hilton Gold member, so I’ve stayed in many!) They command their ridiculous room rates because there is demand in the area. They claim that the rooms were “renovated” 2 years ago, but it is obvious that ownership did the absolute bare minimum. The linens, towels, pillows, and furniture are still low grade and crappy, and the carpeting is from the early 90’s. I will honestly never stay at this property again. They are renovating the lobby, so when walking in you might think it’s a decent hotel. But trust me, it’s crap. The staff is very nice and courteous, but that’s the only redeeming quality. They use mag swipes for their key cards (not RFID like any decently modern hotel), and the readers in the elevators and room doors are 20 years old. In the elevators, the key readers are terrible and it’s near impossible to dip the card corrrcrly to get the green light to press your floor. They have a sticky label in the elevator that reads “insert key like making tea.” If that’s not bootleg, I don’t know what is. Room 211 smelled like feet. One of my towels had a poop stain on it. Seriously, stay somewhere else.
Response from Property: Tom, thank you for sharing your feedback. It is disheartening to hear that your stay did not meet expectations. The property appreciates your comments on the team members' courtesy and will look into the areas you mentioned for improvement. The ongoing lobby renovations aim to enhance the guest experience. The team hopes you might give us another opportunity in the future.

The hotel was awful. It looked clean but did not meet our standards. Such a shame. We booked one night and left to go to another hotel at 3:00am as we unfortunately suffered bed bugs while here. The front desk lady was rude and unsympathetic. Beware.

We had the most terrible experience in our 30 years of traveling. The front desk staff of this hotel was as unprofessional as one could imagine. “We have a right to displace you from the hotel premises with a penalty fee” YELLED a front desk woman. “I will not talk to you, only to your husband,” “yes, you have the key, but your husband did not put you on the list, so I will not tell you the room number.” Those were the words of the same so-called front desk “help.” It was our first night, late arrival to the hotel and I did not remember my room number. I understand the hotel privacy policy but whatever messages the front desk aid tried to communicate were lost in her rudeness and lack of any compassion or desire to help a client in need. Thus, I ended up walking down the corridor on my floor looking for the assigned room and occasionally knocking at the wrong doors at 2 in the morning, after a very long and tiresome trip. It is a pity that people who do not care about customers are allowed to do customer service at an otherwise reputable hotel.
Response from Property: Dear ElenamY3982DL, we are concerned to hear about your recent experience with our team members. The issue you described does not reflect the service standards we strive for. We will review your feedback thoroughly to ensure improvements in our service. However, we would like to clarify that we strictly adhere to privacy policies and cannot disclose any guest information without their consent. In this instance, your husband's reservation did not include your name as an authorized person. Ensuring clear communication of our privacy policies while maintaining courtesy is of utmost importance to us. Thank you for sharing your observations, and we appreciate your understanding.

Lovely hôtel. We are here a few nights and are very happy we chose this hotel over others nearby. The lobby is modern and airy. The room is larger than most and very clean, has a modern urban vibe, including new Keurig coffeemaker. Door entry is as updated as we have seen here with a tap, rather than dip in, door card reader. Staff is friendly and professional. Have not experienced the construction problems other reviewers here have complained of. The location is wonderful for walking to restaurants of all kinds. The bathroom could use another hook or two for hanging a towel but so far that’s all I can suggest.
Response from Property: AddictedTravelers, Thank you for sharing your delightful experience at Hilton Garden Inn Bethesda Downtown. It is wonderful to hear you appreciated the modern and spacious room, and enjoyed the convenience of the updated features. Our team members strive to make everyone’s stay comfortable, so it’s great that you found them friendly and professional. Your suggestion regarding the bathroom is appreciated. We hope to welcome you back soon! Best regards.

We were very happy with this hotel. Room (one king bed) was large, clean, and quiet. The window could be opened, and the air conditioning was both effective and really quiet. Wifi was free and fast. The bed was comfortable, and we appreciated having a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave in the room. The breakfast buffet was good: sliced strawberries, eggs, bacon, pancakes, oatmeal, etc. They weren't charging for breakfast while we were there, maybe because the lobby was still being renovated. In the two days we were there, we saw the crew put the almost-final touches in place (including new furniture). But no noise traveled to the rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was great for us; the hotel is around the corner from the metro, and a block away from the downtown Bethesda streets that have all the small shops and restaurants. If we have to make a similar trip (seeing family) we will be happy to stay here.
Response from Property: Normam995, Thank you for choosing Hilton Garden Inn Bethesda Downtown. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the large, clean, and quiet room, as well as the convenient amenities like the fridge, coffee maker, and microwave. The team is pleased to know that you appreciated the breakfast buffet and found our location ideal for your visit. We're delighted that you found the team friendly and helpful. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit! Safe travels!

We visited during a soccer tournament with several other families. This hotel came at the suggestion of the tournament organizers but was literally one of the worst experiences we’ve had. As recent travelers mentioned, the hotel is under construction. Most amenities are unavailable including the gym. When we arrived the front desk staff are not very welcoming and frankly seem annoyed. There was a lot of attitude by a simple question I asked about several charges on my card. When we finally arrived in the room, it was dated and had a musty odor. We found several hairs in the bed and bathroom was not cleaned properly. We stayed that evening due to exhaustion and then hastily checked out and stayed at the Double Tree (which seemed like an oasis compared to the Garden Inn)! Don’t stay here until customer service and quality improves !!
Response from Property: The concerns you’ve shared about the state of amenities, room conditions, and interactions at the front desk are noted. The hotel aims to provide a welcoming environment and regrets that your experience did not reflect that. The feedback will be used for improvement. Safe travels, and thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I feel compelled to write a review to warn others about what's going on with this hotel. We usually love Hilton Garden Inns and never had issues, but this one is in bad shape right now. There is construction going on, noisy, and also disruptive. The restaurant isn't open. Breakfast is a buffet (which they are charging for--should be free given the circumstances). The worst part is the key cards don't work. Literally, don't work. We were stuck in a packed elevator and no one's card worked, so we could go nowhere. Went to the basement at one point and had to have housekeeping staff use their card to get us to our floor. The staff seems to be trying their best, but this hotel should be shut down right now. We've been here less than 24 hours and have had to have our card reset three times. Walking up and down to/from the 9th floor isn't fun. It would be one thing if this hotel were super discounted and all these problems were made known to us upon reservation. Not the case. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because of the great location, staff who is trying their best, and clean, if dated, rooms.

We chose this hotel because it was close to the metro. We were able to walk to the station and leave our car in the hotel parking garage. It was very convenient. Also, the room (which was very comfortable and clean) had a microwave, which many other hotels we looked at were lacking. That was very important to our family. There was a little confusion when I made my reservation about what exactly was included in our package, but Sara, the manager, answered all my questions and worked everything out for us. She was great! There was renovation going on, so the restaurant and exercise room were not available. Not sure how long that is going on for. We walked plenty in DC so we didn't need to exercise, and there are some chain eateries close to the hotel...5 Guys, Panera, and local places. Also, Trader Joes and a larger grocery store.
Response from Property: AnnebZ1101WR, thank you for the favorable review. It's wonderful to know that our ideal location near the metro, in-house parking, and well-equipped rooms enhanced your stay. The Hilton Garden Inn Bethesda Downtown prides itself on offering conveniences like these. It warms our hearts to hear that our colleagues, particularly the manager, were able to address your concerns and provide clarity. Regarding the ongoing renovations, we are committed to improving our hotel's amenities and believe it will result in a more enjoyable stay for future guests. In the interim, we are glad you were able to enjoy the nearby dining and grocery options. We trust that your future stays shall be even better as we apply the finishing touches to our upgrades. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back soon.
