We booked this trip, a weekend break to Berlin way back in January 2020. Remember those times? We could shake hands with strangers, strap-hang on the crowded bus into town, and dance in front of a stage to our favourite bands. Not to mention the trips we could take. We already had one trip in May booked and hoped to squeeze in a few more besides. So, September arrived and between them Angela M and BoJo managed to create this illusion that life was a bit more normal and we could do normal things, like cramming ourselves into an EasyJet plane and fly 2hours east to Berlin. Not sure any city is more straight forward, once you’ve got the hang of the place, than Berlin. And so relatively compliant a country as Germany, where on average, people spend 8 years of their lives stood waiting to cross an empty road because the red light says Stop. (May not be accurate, but close enough). In a pandemic, it seems even the toughest looking shaven headed techno-head is willing to wear a mask. Everyone was, only folk not wearing a mask for just the briefest times was us, until we had a look of shame so cutting it made me have a koniption
