I traveled to Berlin several times for work over the last two years and always stayed in one of the big chains. This time I had trouble getting a room because it was a public holiday, so I decided to stay at the Hotel Johann in Kreuzberg. From the outside, the hotel doesn't look like much. A somewhat dreary red building in the middle of a residential area. I was all the more surprised when I got to my room. Very modern, large and clean rooms. A very nice bathroom, also large, attractive design, very clean. But the ceiling in my room was special. They left the old vaulted ceiling made of red brick there. This gives the room a really great atmosphere. The breakfast was also OK. There is a car park opposite the hotel, but with a bit of luck you can also park on the street. Very friendly staff. A real insider tip.
