Came here for Christmas Day Lunch which was very disappointing for £150 per person. 3 courses which were below average. Starter was small slice of smoked salmon with some garnish Main course was burnt cold Yorkshire pudding one slice of turkey and vegetables. Desert was either Christmas pudding or pavlova which you couldn’t get your spoon in. We we come back ……….No Way

We stayed overnight at this pub and unfortunately found the room to be quite disappointing. The lovely images on the website gave us much higher expectations. In reality, the room was very tired-looking and in need of some attention. The shower was another letdown—poor water pressure and barely warm water made it a frustrating experience. It’s a shame because the pub itself has potential, but the accommodation didn’t live up to the standard we’d hoped for

I’ve eaten here before, and the food has always been great, however this time was as good an experience as I’ve ever had. The staff were attentive, Patricia was the perfect host. Food was fantastic and the value was excellent. Well done to the whole team.

Was recommended to go here by a local for brunch and it was perfect. It was a freezing day so being able to sit by the fire was lovely . Such a lovely interior in the restaurant and bar. Great food and very helpful and accommodating staff who very flexible when it came to my choices. Excellent

A very spacious and comfortable room and bathroom in a centrally situated hotel. However, what made this stay special was the friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency of the staff throughout, from reception to the restaurant (with its freshly prepared and interesting dinner and breakfast menus). Highly recommended.

This hotel is a charming old property in the center of town. Our room (8) was roomy and clean. Comfy bed. As most historic buildings there was a lack of outlets, water pressure was weak and barely reached slightly warm. One night was fairly warm without AC. With the windows open it was noisy when bins were emptied. Location was excellent and breakfast was fantastic! The restaurant host stand acts as hotel front desk. Phoebe was very helpful and friendly! Housekeeping was very responsive if we needed something. Would stay here again.

I normally stick to chain hotels for a ‘safe bet’ but thought I’d take a chance on this one. I’d have liked to have been able to open the windows further as it was very warm but there were plenty of fan options around. I was pleasantly surprised by the noise levels - was quite quiet throughout the night! The breakfast - wow! One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had whilst away for work. Couldn’t fault it. Thanks to the man that was serving and the chef! I’d stay here again!

I stayed in one of the character rooms, which was lovely, with great beams and old, slanted floors. Could use a new carpet. Clean sheets, updated bathroom, good housekeeping (they immediately replaced something for me when asked), very warm welcome at the pub. Great breakfast downstairs. Good heating, all amenities like hair dryer, iron, hob available. Perfectly suitable wifi for streaming and video conferencing. Check in and check out was efficient and well arranged. The hotel is not very soundproof, it's true- street noise and pub noise exists, but wasn't bothersome to me and I loved looking out over the high street. It's a charming town, and this is an older building with quirks, but with that in mind, it's a fine place to stay and enjoy.

Awful stay. So disappointed. I’ve stayed in lots of pubs before so of course, expected a certain amount of noise but this was ridiculous. For £120 a night? No way. It was unacceptable. Stayed a night with another couple. we stayed in a small courtyard. The rooms almost felt like student digs but seemed clean enough. This courtyard backs onto the outside pub area and was so noisy we couldn’t even hear the television. Our room was also right opposite where the bottles are recycled. To top it off the staff sat to smoke on a bench right outside my friends room, so she couldn’t even open a window in the room, as the smell of smoke was so strong and being a non smoker found this unacceptable to have smoke coming through their window. We had continuous coming and going from staff in the room next to us, which we then learnt was a breakout room for staff. This room was permanently wedged open and people in and out all evening. The morning duty manager did apologise and listened to what we had to say and then offered a reduction in the room rate, but the money wasn’t really the point, as this was a special night away for a celebration that ended up being incredibly stressful and felt like a complete waste of money and time. I ended up falling asleep at 5am and felt completely shattered the next day. So much history and so much potential in a beautiful high street but sadly falling very short. From past reviews this seems to be an ongoing problem stemming years back, in which case owners know this and should advertise these rooms at a much reduced rate to reflect their quality (cracked sink/botched bathroom flooring) and location. It must be very challenging for management to have to deal with disappointed customers and it needs a strong injection of funds to come up to standard. If you do go make sure to book a room in the main building. The ONLY plus was that the breakfast was really good, the morning duty manager did listen to us, showing a level of understanding and professionalism we would expect from an establishment such as this, and the morning staff polite and friendly.
