This was an extremely pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food and drink first class and the room and bed both cosy and extremely comfortable. An 11 our of 10 score from us. We managed to leave our phone charger there. It was retrieved for us and waiting for us when we went back for it. Cliff and Dianne Webb

A clean room with a comfortable bed. It's quite old fashioned inside the pub and hotel but the room was quite spacious and the bed felt new. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was great. In the room tea and coffee facilities were provided. Easy to park. Nice and quiet. Very happy with our stay.

Staff very friendly, room was very clean but bathroom was very very dated. Bed very comfortable. Food not good. I was given the wrong soup which when i pointed this out they were happy to change but my next soup was very cold. My meat was extremely over cooked and peas were so dehydrated.

Very nice clean and tidy hotel with welcoming owners but OMG the food!!!! Had an evening meal, trio of sausages All different flavours and the wife had a vegetable and cashew nut curry. Very reasonably priced. Even if your not staying there book an evening meal. I promise you won't regret it.

The worst restaurant (bar) I have ever eaten in. A clue what to expect is there is no menu posted on their website which is no surprise because the prices are way more expensive than all the competition in the area. Another clue is the restaurant was not open and food was served in the bar as there were only 10 diners in on a Saturday night including our party of 5. All other restaurants in the area were full. Apart from the price the quality of meals and service was dismal. Food - 2 steak pies, 1 beef curry, a chicken salad and a burger. I was shocked at the chicken salad, it was half a chicken breast with a few slices of pepper and a bit of iceberg lettuce thrown onto the plate - shocking at £16.30. Steak and Ale pies - really unpleasant and overpowered with salt and herbs and no taste of ale. They looked like a mass produced cheap pie which had been taken out of it foil tray and plonked over a small portion of dreadful chips and was way too expensive at £16.80. Homemade beef curry looked like someone had heated up a tin of dog food and thrown it on a plate and that cost £16.40. The burger was not the best quality and was also pricey at £10.60. All the portions of chips were very small and had not been cooked correctly. They were pale and soggy which was not helped by gravy/curry tipped over them. It was difficult to know if you were eating a soggy chip or a bit of soggy pastry because it all merged together. Veg not presented well. The person that served that could not possibly be a qualified chef/cook. Service - not very friendly. The lady who came to take our orders wasn't very professional and she presented us with 1 menu to read between 5 of us and she hovered over us impatiently while we passed in around trying to make a choice. No apology for having to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant which we had booked. We didn't mid eating in the bar but we did notice the staff sat around drinking by the bar and we did feel they couldn't be bothered to look after the diners. The 2 waitresses were pleasant. The hotel - 3 star hotel more expensive than most in the area and clearly it was under occupied as other places nearby were fully booked. It was basic and a bit dated but it was spotlessly clean with a reasonable bed. Glad we didn't book breakfast based on our evening meal experience. The lady who booked us in was helpful and pleasant but Reception was closed so had to come away from the bar to check us in. I hope this review will prevent another poor customer parting with their money on such awful food. I have never written a review as bad as this one and I am not really a habitual complainer so this is a genuine piece of advice.

Very pleasant and unpretentious small hotel in the middle of Berkeley town. Convenient for events at Berkeley castle - well worth visiting even if you're not attending a wedding event (like we did). Rooms had all necessary amenities. Shower in our room took some time to get hot and then was scalding! Due to the ancient plumbing system it seems. Walls did not have much insulation. Breakfast was a full spread with hot meal made and served to order. We had dinner for 7 one evening, with mains like fish pie, roast pork, trio of sausages, veg lasagne and chili chicken. All tasty and good value for money.
