Nice resort with very beautiful scenery of the drakensberg mountains. Food was good, variety so there was something for everyone. Unfortunately we did not get to use the pool because it was raining constantly. But overall, i would recommend this hotel .

Glancing up at the cloudless periwinkle blue sky had a calming effect on me. I leant on the wooden pole fence, forearms on the top bar, left foot on the bottom bar, right foot tapping nervously on the dusty path. It was the most glorious winters day with a bright and warm sun lighting up the foothills and mountain peaks across the valley. It was, I thought probably the most perfect day to be in the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Mountains. From the fence, that surrounded the stables, I watched the horses having a late lunch. I was not nervous around the horses I was nervous because I was about to do something I had not done since I was on a school trip over forty years ago. I was about get back in the saddle. Having only been horse riding twice in my life I did not even qualify as a novice. And the phrase back in the saddle was also not appropriate. A large white horse walked past me, and I asked my guide Zekhelle if this was my horse? A huge grin appeared on his face, and he replied, “No, this one likes to run”. Zekhelle then handed me my helmet and fetched my horse and a chair. I took a deep breath as I prepared to mount (As a cowboy fan, a horse that looked to me like the Lone Rangers horse, Silver) and with a helping hand from Zekhelle my right leg made it over the saddle. I was immediately hit with the most crippling cramp at the top of my right leg. Not the best start but Zekhelle, big smile in place, bent my toes back to ease the pain and assured me this was a regular occurrence. After some instructions, guidance and tips we headed out of the stable gate. My nerves were soon gone and Butch, my horse, was firmly in control. (in another cowboy reference from my love of films being with Butch ‘Cassidy’ made me the Sundance Kid) We followed Zekhelle who set a slow pace, and I followed all his instructions “lean back Mark” he said glancing over his shoulder as we headed down a pathway covered in lose rocks. After twenty minutes I was starting to really enjoy my vantage point and confident enough to be taking in all the breathtaking Drakensberg scenery. What a place to be riding I thought to myself and why had I waited so long to do this. What an incredible start to my stay at the Little Switzerland Resort. Full of confidence now, and back at the resort, I read through the hiking options and after taking some advice opted to challenge myself to ‘The Cone’ hike. If I am being totally honest this was the shortest hike on offer and that did have a small influence on my decision. However, winter is extremely dry here and other short hikes were to waterfalls, where there was no water. I will also point out that Little Switzerland Resort is 1635 meters above sea level, The Cone is 1715 meters above sea level and my hometown in the middle of England is 90 meters above sea level. It is fair to say that at altitude I get a little breathless. I took my time walking and stopping every few hundred meters to take in the views. The last few meters to the summit a

Had lunch at Little Switzerland, first time we have been there, on our way back home from Champagne Castle. Was very quiet, no other people in the restaurant. Service was quick and friendly. Too windy to sit outside, unfortunately. Burger was fresh and tasty. Good value for money.

There were a number of things I raised with reception and manager in duty at checkout. 1. Both dinners I have T-Bone steak and then the Rump steak. Both times I asked for medium and they came more than well done actually burned. The T-Bone was thin and barely had any fillet on the fillet side of bone. The other side of bone had a much larger fat section that normal. 2. Night 1, After dinner I got my bill and I added a tip and charged it to my room. The waitress had the cheek to come to me and ask me to pay the top to her in cash! 3. On the first night I received a wattsapp from reception reminding me of dinner time and breakfast times for the following day. This was fine but at the bar on the first night we had a drink with people we met and it was clear that staff were wanting us to leave and go to dinner and this was only 18.30. The second day I received a wattsapp from reception saying we must go and eat dinner in the bar. I replied saying why and she didn't say anything but later replied to say it was fine we could have dinner in the restaurant upstairs. This was very odd, it's not very comfortable having dinner in a bar with two big TVs playing. This leads to high tea... Well I wattsapp reception and they say yes high tea is at 15.00 so we go down for it and the staff have no idea that they do high tea. They actually had to ask reception who insisted there was high tea but nothing was out. The waitress then checked with the kitchen who told her it would be chocolate biscuits and she then brings out stale white biscuits... During this time one of your staff who looked like a maintenance guy was sitting in the bar kept changing the sports channels to watch what he wanted to watch. Everytime I got interested in the football game playing he changed to something else. This happened 4 times, he clearly and the bar tender and waitress didn't care to think that there were paying customers. They shouldn't in any case be watching TV that is for the guests. Bed bugs! Not great but I do understand that in an old lodge the mattresses do get bedbugs but that must be treated. Both my wife and I left with lots of little bites from the bedbugs. Checkout was a disaster.... In prior emails having joined the Dream holiday club I was told in an email from your staff that I will get 10% off my drinks. This did not happen and I complained and eventually after back and forth with the manager I got the 10% off but guess what... The charges me someone else's bill. They then notice after I have paid and we have to do it all over again... I told them my complaints and they didn't seems to care one bit. Because we were with friends at dinner I didn't want to complain at the table as not to ruin the Valentine's holiday for us all. So I brought it up with reception at the end. The room does need some basic maintenance as well but that's not a big issue for me but the rest is. Please let me know how you can remindy this situation, I spent a lot of money ta

We spent 3 nights at the self catering chalets. The chalet was well presented and spotless. We also had a dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant which was excellent. We went on a number of the walks in the area (the Cone and Rainbow Falls) which are well demarcated. As birders we were impressed with the number of bird species in and around the resort area. We ticked 62 species in the 3 days including a number of specials. The resort is recommended to those interested in a relaxed atmosphere with the possibility of day trips to Royal Natal National Park and Sterkfontein dam.

This is a pleasant hotel with some fabulous views. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. There's a bar with TV showing sports / whatever is requested and a small spa; the massages were very good. The building is a little dated in some respects and while there was a fairly wide variety of food on offer, the quality was often not that great. Staff were all helpful.

Our stay was for 4 nights in the hotel. This included breakfast and dinner. The check-in and out was efficient and friendly. The suite was impressive with a large seating area and beautiful patio over looking thr pond. The rooms have underfloor heating, which took away the chill. The bathroom has a huge tub and a high-pressure shower. There are many free and paid activities, including a spa. The hotel has a magnificent view across the valley looking towards the mountain range. Clarens is scenic 100km away. A lovely experience and just what we needed for a peaceful getaway.
