Great stay . Would have been better if they had a back up generator for load shedding but alas, i enjoyed my stay

Similar to previous reviews. Our experience at Essenwood Hopuse wss a complete disaster. What was once likely a nice place is now a dive. arriving to a construction site was the first red flag. The photos on the website were nothing like the actual condition of the rooms. The pool was filthy, there was rubbish piled up on the balcony, the rooms doors had screwdriver marks where people had tried to break in, the room next to reception has the door open and it was a complete mess. In short, we did not feel safe and booked out immediately without staying a single night. Best decision I have ever made. On top of that, the overpayment that I am due has not been settled. Buyer beware!

What once was a beautiful 4 star Guesthouse owned and run expertly by John is now a -1 star hovel. I cannot believe what has happened to this place. I had stayed here many times over the years so did not check the reviews, my mistake. The website is an absolute lie. The rooms are disgustingly dirty, stains on everything. The bathrooms are missing shower doors or curtains and in some cases toilet seats. The linen and towels are questionable, you have to ask for towels and toilet paper. Breakfast is "brought to your room" and the only breakfast on offer is eggs, bacon and baked beans, rubbish weak coffee and toast only toasted on one side. They do not serve fruit, yogurt, cereals etc. Breakfast used to be served on the gorgeous patio, well I can see now why they don't do that anymore as the view is GONE. someone has erected a house right in front of the guesthouse obscuring the view. There is no Manager or Owner on site and the 2 ladies trying their best under these dreadful circumstance are not allowed to give out any contact details, I wonder why??? The bins never got emptied, I stayed for 4 nights. VERY unfortunately we paid upfront otherwise I would have left straight away.. Its no wonder they take money upfront with no cancellation policy as no one in their right mind would stay there otherwise. The last night there was no water and there is no battery operated torch or light during loadshedding. This is a compelte disaster. DO NOT STAY HERE.....

DISASTER We arrived after 20 hours travel from Europe and we hoped to enjoy a quite stay. Nothing of this, the guy at the reception was all but helpful, the bathroom was extremely dirty and in between the rooms that we had, sone locals rented one room but they were 10 on the room. We staid for less than an hour - the time to find an alternatve - and we went. This place is not up the standard indicated and the pictures are misleading.

1st Off - Place is dirty, false advertising to the max. Staff do not even know what a beer glass looks like. Waited on our first day 9 hrs for clean towels. In every corner of this room lays a thick layer of dirt. It looks like this place has never seen a Vacuum cleaner. The walls are dirty , outside everything is dirty so you dare not sit anywhere you haven't cleaned yourself. My husband and myself stay in Durban , have gone to a few places to break away from the rush that is daily life and wow this place gave me anxiety to the max. You pay for R69 for breakfast and it comes with 2 eggs soiled in Oil, a piece of Bacon ..and then you also get a piece of cat hair and egg shell with your egg. This place has a lot of potential. I am saddened that on the second day asking for clean towels I was told there is none... This place has a lot of potential but sadly it will never see us again nor will anyone I know come here . Sort out your Guesthouse....

House keeping is horrible, during our stay bath tub and toilet not cleaned at all, towels and linen were never changed during our 3nights stay, wifi never connects actually non existent, we paid for breakfast that was never served
