Strangely my feelings echo someone who stayed at the same time as we did. We were in Jasmine and there was no heating in the room when we arrived until late afternoon . It was December and our room should have been warmly welcoming. We also were surprised that we could not sit down for A warming drink but we’re to be allocated a table by the rather steely receptionist when she permitted. Rather disconcerting. We had a light lunch and the rest of the staff were all very pleasant especially housekeeping who were very helpful . The food was excellent apart from a revolting celeriac starter, tepid and slimy. The Xmas pud was excellent and the kind waitress brought extra brandy sauce. The breakfasts were good and there was a well stocked buffet. My husband checked the bill and found they had overcharged him by a considerable amount which was rectified although I found when I checked the bill they had included drinks over Xmas lunch which we did not have. They supply a hamper for Christmas Day evening which is a bit odd as other Devonshire hotels provided a generous buffet in the comfort of their lounges rather than being dismissed back to their rooms ,rather like being in disgrace at boarding school but with a midnight feast! The bartender Adam really redeemed this place by suggesting we might like our hamper in the bar and he would provide cutlery as we were trying to warm up and then at my request lit the wood stove. Other guests also appreciated that. The place closed at 8.45 that day. Our driver came a little early on Boxing Day and I wasn’t sorry. And please make sure the curtain hooks are checked. My bête noire is dropping curtains.

The room was cold on arrival. None of the radiators worked. The hotel provided a small heater which helped. Dinner was nice but there was no atmosphere in the conservatory and it was all very rushed; 3 courses in an hour and a quarter. We were going to stay for a drink in the bar but all the fires had gone out at 20:45. This was our anniversary and they knew this but there was nothing special about our stay whatsoever.

Called for a drink (have been a few times before) but won’t be going again. Ordered a pint of beer and glass of rose wine, the wine glass had lipstick all around the rim so I asked the bar lady to change it before I took a sip. She picked up a fresh glass from behind the bar - which again was dirty - so she put it under the coffee machine and sprayed hot steam on to it. Then she wiped it with a handful of blue paper towel (like that industrial stuff you get from Screwfix that feels like it’s got fibre glass in it) and poured the wine out of the first dirty glass into that glass. When I went to take a drink of it, it was warm and now smelt like paint ********! So I didn’t bother. It was mad busy in the pub, staff were stressed and I couldn’t face going back a second time, so we just left our drinks on the table and left. At fifteen quid a throw for a glass of wine and a pint you’d expect better to be honest (I’m sure they can afford to buy a better glass washing machine).

Went for afternoon tea Spoke to a lady in pink ,said i had a table booked for 3pm, gave no name... promptly seated same lady brought our afternoon tea out.... she was friendly no one came whilst eating to see if everything was ok... polite practice to do so could not find room to eat the scones.... had to search for an assistance.... spoke to a woman in blue, not friendly, asked for a box to take said scones home... very ABRUPT What has happened to the extremely jolly staff that worked here before .... the present incumbents just not up to the job... especially the ABRUPT woman in BLUE The DEV was one of our favourite places .... fast losing our respect

Another excellent stay at the Devonshire Arms at Beverley. Wonderful polite friendly staff, always willing to go above and beyond. Fantastic accommodation and amazing food. Looking forward to our next visit already. The visit to Chatsworth Christmas market 2024 was brilliant as ever and everything made more festive with the covering of snow.

Arrived to check in and were taken to our room which was in one of the cottages, Jasmine, at about 3.45 to find that there was no heating on. When we informed the desk about this we were told to adjust the radiators to maximum. That did not work so someone came over and after checking we were told that there was a problem with the heating - it was supposed to come on automatically at 3.30. A small electric heater was supplied which was totally inadequate and we were told they would get an engineer out. Heating came on at about 5pm and so problem was sorted although nobody informed us. One would expect that .where there were rooms not connected to the main building heating should come on prior to check in time and someone should check that there isn’t a problem,.

We have stayed here before and throughly enjoyed it, hence returning, booked an upgraded room package to include tickets to Chatsworth house, really looking forward to it. Arrived this afternoon, shown our room which was lovely, and went to the bar for a drink, served and sat down to relax before unpacking and dinner, only to be told sorry we need your table, you'll have to move, this happened 3 times in 40mi ns, Ending in sorry there is nowhere to sit to finish your drink, no space for residents paying nearly £400, a night, we had to sit in our room!! The last table we sat at had a reserved from 7.15 notice on it, we were moved at 4.45pm?, we were told it was an error! Needless to say we won't be back, even at Premier inn you can sit and have a drink without being moved. We were told they were extremely busy, not our fault, they should not be greedy and overbook, shame it is a lovely pub.
